We are seeking a Senior Estates Team Leader - Mechanical who will take responsibility for the overall supervision and allocation of tasks to the Estates maintenance trade team who will undertake the work on a wide range of building, engineering plant and equipment across the hospital site.

Progression from Band 5 to Band 6 upon completion of agreed training, subject to individuals skills and qualifications.

The post holder will be required to carry out On-Call duties as part of the Senior Engineers' rota.

This post is key to supporting the management of the Estates service by leading in the provision of an efficient and effective level of service within the trust while guiding, motivating and managing the in-house works team to achieve goals and targets set by the Estates Manager. The post holder will ideally have a mechanical background.

In addition, the post holder will be required to design, plan and manage minor improvement works as directed by the Estates Officers to be either undertaken by the Trusts in house Estates Team or by external contractors. The increasing complex PPM mandatory and statutory tasks, PLACE and CQC inspections, require sound, robust and flexible management to monitor progress and ensure efficient allocation of tasks through to completion.

The post holder will be responsible on a daily basis to the Estates Operations Manager. The post holder is to have an all-round understanding of all maintenance trades within an acute hospital environment with a specific emphasis on mechanical matters.

The post holder is required to undertake Authorised Persons (AP) duties on various specialist engineering services in an acute hospital as required and delegated to do so by the Trusts Responsible Person (Estates Manager).

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services (emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit and children's ward). Adult and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

Supervise directly Trades at all establishments maintained by the Trust, including monitoring, timekeeping and discipline.

At all times to carry communication devices (mobile phone and two-way radio) to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.

To liaise directly with clients and to prioritise the activities of staff undertaking complex repair works and general maintenance activities under maintenance and/ or direct contract. To participate in any management team briefings as required. To manage and monitor the Estates FM system for issuing of PPMs and Reactive jobs to the Estates workforce.

To provide analysis, technical advice and support on complex Building systems to contractors and in-house staff appointed for major capital projects and minor upgrade works.

To maintain control of the Trusts various Estates Permit to Work systems.

Recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical trade
City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline or equivalent
BTEC, ONC/HNC in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience e.g. time served tradesman.

Current Competent Person certificate in various technical systems such as low voltage electrical, medical gas, decontamination, etc.

~1st Line Management qualification or working towards qualification (or equivalent).
~ Degree level in mechanical or electrical engineering
~ A recognised training qualification in Plumbing services
~ Customer Care Training
~ Previous experience of working in an engineering and/or building maintenance role
Evidence of a maintenance background with skills to carry out minor mechanical/electrical/building repairs
Previous experience and knowledge of Database and spreadsheet systems
Experience and Knowledge of Microsoft office programmes.

Experience in the day-to-day management of staff.
To have knowledge of Low Pressure Hot Water Systems
To have knowledge of HTM documents including HTM 01 Decontamination, HTM 03 Heating and Ventilation, HTM06 Electrical services
IT competent in particular with Microsoft Office Word and Excel
Ability to analyse, interpret and action data results.
