Main duties of the job
The Facilities Support Worker role will carry out a range of duties associated with the provision of cleaning, food service and general Portering support activities including patient transfer between departments/wards.
The role is very hands-on, providing facilities support services to the departments and wards at Andover War Memorial Hospital.
The role offers good variety and a great opportunity to learn about the different services and departments within the facilities family.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Portering Duties
The safe movement of people and goods including (but not limited to):
- General Portering duties such as Patients moves (including babies, children, and adults).
- Portering of mail, medical records, pharmacy supplies, bloods, specimens, supplies., waste, linen, furniture.
- Patient meal delivery to ward areas.
Domestic Duties
- General domestic cleaning functions high / low level dusting, vacuuming, mopping, floor scrubbing and drying with floor machines, floor burnishing, deep cleaning and HPV set up.
- Prepare and provide patient hot and cold drinks to patients in ward areas or as otherwise directed.
Catering Duties
- General kitchen support duties such as washing up, cleaning down, moving, and rotating stock items and food.
preparation such as preparation of sandwiches, salads, fruits and beverages for restaurant and hospitality function.
- Food service and food replenishment and cash handling till operator, within the restaurant when required.
- General cleaning to front of house servery area, tables, crockery, cutlery, vending machines.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good general education at GCSE level or equivalent.
- Entry Level 3 standard Literacy and Numeracy
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake
- Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
- Customer care training
- NVQ.
- Dementia training
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of manual handling and health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of Infection Control procedures.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- In depth knowledge of food allergens
- Willingness to learn
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
- Experience in using floor machinery
Skills & Ability
Essential criteria
- Autonomous application of knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, ward staff and visitors.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to use a computer to a basic level
- Ability to record written information accurately Ability to communicate and build relationships with colleagues
Other Specific Requirements
Essential criteria
- Work flexible hours to meet the workload to of the organisational needs.
- Travel across site as there will be occasional need to support service elsewhere across the service group (for escalation and training purposes).
- Be Physically fit, able to undertake manual tasks such as lifting, pushing, stretching, bending and being on feet for long periods.
- Be able to work in shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Basic understanding of an hospital environment, flexible and willing to learn new skills within the facilities envelop. Be a team player, organised and have good levels of communication. Being a people person at heart with a can-do attitude.
- Experience in a health care setting or working in a large organisation would be beneficial, training provided for the right person.
