The Role:
As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with autism in their educational journey. Your responsibilities will include:
* Individualized Support: Work one-on-one with students, providing tailored assistance that meets their specific learning needs and goals.
* Classroom Assistance: Support the classroom teacher in creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive. This includes helping with lesson preparation, classroom management, and facilitating social interactions.
* Behavioral Support: Implement strategies to help students manage their behavior, develop coping skills, and promote positive interactions with peers.
* Communication Development: Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies, including the use of visual aids, social stories, and other resources that enhance understanding and expression.
* Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and report on the student’s progress, working closely with teachers, parents, and other specialists to adjust support plans as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience: Previous experience working with children with autism or in a special education setting is essential. Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other relevant techniques is a plus.
* Qualifications: A relevant qualification in special education, teaching assistance, or a related field is highly desirable.
* Empathy and Patience: A genuine passion for working with children with autism, coupled with the patience and understanding required to support their unique needs.
* Communication Skills: Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
* Adaptability: Ability to adapt teaching methods and strategies to meet the changing needs of students.
