We are currently looking for a Software Engineer in Test to be based out of the UK. This can be a remote or hybrid role with our office being located in London (Hammersmith). The Software Engineer in Test will report into the Technical Lead.



Our Tech Stack


The frontend is a SSR React/TypeScript webapp. The backend is primarily in Java using Spring Boot and exposes a REST API. We use GCP pub/sub for async messages, MySQL, Redis and Elastic Search for data. Our platform stack is Kubernetes on GCP, defined by Terraform. GitLab manages our source code and CI/CD pipelines.



What You Will Do


  • Engage with your squad and the wider product and engineering team to build maintainable, testable, observable and resilient software systems
  • Evangelise automated testing techniques with a clear understanding of trade-offs and value of various approaches
  • Lead and advise on quality throughout design, architecture and development, defining and championing new principles, practices and patterns
  • Define and drive streamlined testing and automation strategies
  • Develop new tests and tools for our web/mobile frontends and backend APIs/services
  • Identify and resolve challenges in automated test execution
  • Enact continuous improvement, striving for the fastest feedback possible
  • Take ownership of delivery, embracing a DevOps culture to own the lifecycle of software that powers our products, along with release automation and production observability
  • Own one or more core areas of Oddschecker’s product and engineering stacks, iteratively delivering value
  • Coach and mentor others in your squad and wider team
  • Manage expectations of a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders



About You


  • A proven track record in test automation and software development
  • Technical excellence with strong experience of Java and its ecosystem
  • Product focused, with a desire to learn about the business to develop elegant quality-first solutions from high-level requirements
  • A seasoned practitioner of agile practices and methodologies
  • Strong experience working with CI/CD and delivery automation
  • Strong experience of test-first development and its benefits, utilising a balanced mix of unit, integration, and end-to-end practices
  • Experience designing, building and testing cloud native solutions
  • Experience of API, performance and security testing automation and tools
  • A “you build it, you run it” mindset
  • Passionate about software craftsmanship but also pragmatic, striving for the simplest possible solutions
  • Experience of leading others by example, providing coaching and mentorship
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and diplomatic approach. Encourage a culture of constructive feedback

  • TDD and/or DDD experience.
  • T-shaped engineers; the ability to work across the stack with modern frontend and platform experience.
