Role Overview
As a part of the Project Management Office, the Project Manager will be responsible for delivering complex projects on time and within budget, while meeting and exceeding the expectations of project stakeholders. The project manager will closely collaborate with senior staff within Engineering, production, and operations to ensure timely completion of all tasks against challenging time scales. This is an exciting new role within a fast-growing business operating in the Satellite Communications sector with growth potential. This is a hands-on, business-critical role for managing multiple R&D (NPI) and Commercial projects simultaneously. Project timescales and scope can vary between projects, so the project manager must be able to adapt their project management approach accordingly.
Key Accountabilities
Prepare and communicate project schedule (Plan) that closely aligns with product development life cycle
Define critical path, and baseline projects and analyse deviations to ensure continuous learning and improvements
Responsible for project’s financials (budget) and take actions to maximise project returns
Provide and publish project health reports to the Programme Manager and to the wider team (both internal and/or external to ETL)
Actively manage and mitigate risks by taking a 360-degree view of the project
Actively manage issues that arise during the project to minimise its impact on project objectives
Manage project scope with a sharp focus on scope “creeps” and “kills”
Adopt stage gate process for project management and manage work packages accordingly
Work closely with the engineering team to better understand, manage and implement requirements. Responsible for drawing up action plans to mitigate the risks and have regular follow-ups.
Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure their interests are placed at the heart of all decisions during the project’s lifecycle
Structure complex projects into manageable work packages and communicate this effectively to the wider project team
Organise and lead cross-departmental project meetings to review progress and troubleshoot where necessary
Our ideal candidate
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A good honours degree in an Engineering and/or Management-based discipline. Commensurate level of experience will be considered for applicants with an HNC / HND level qualifications or similar.
Previous Project Management experience, successfully delivering complex and challenging projects (including R&D, NPI, and Commercial projects).
PRINCE2 or APM Certification.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of interactions between hardware and software aspects of electronics product development.
Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in budget control and project financials, including Earned Value Management (EVM).
Adaptability and Results-Oriented:
Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated capability to deliver results effectively.
Industry Knowledge:
Project management experience in industries directly related to electronics, communications systems, or satellite programs.
Working knowledge of ERP systems.
Experience managing the end-to-end product development cycle, from concept to product realization, within an engineering environment.
Proficiency in customer/supplier engagement and stakeholder management.
Familiarity with project costing for bids and sales support.
