Financial Services Policy Adviser - Hanbury Strategy

About Hanbury Strategy

We turn insight into impact. Whether you face a communications challenge or have a policy goal, our exceptional team uses our understanding of public opinion, the press and politics to create campaigns that work. We love policy and have a relentless focus on achieving great results for our clients.

The role

To support the continued growth and development of our financial services team, we are looking for a driven and talented policy adviser to join us. The successful candidate will have a passion for politics, specifically with an interest and experience in the financial services policy space. You will be someone who is committed to delivering excellence and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The adviser will be a pivotal player in a team that provides cutting edge regulatory and political analysis and engagement advice to some of the most exciting brands in the industry, and help shape the future of this fast-growth part of the business.

You will have around 2-3 years experience as a policymaker or working for a financial services institution, a trade association, a consultancy or in a financial services-facing political role.

Responsibilities will include the following:

Client Management

  • Work across our impressive portfolio of financial services clients on policy support as well as supporting clients from other sectors.
  • Provide regulatory/political analysis and engagement advice. An active player in client delivery.
  • Consistently focussed on what matters most to clients, how to add value through policy knowledge and counsel.
  • Support client relationship management demonstrating strong lateral thinking and an aptitude for joining the dots across client briefs.

Leadership & Development

  • Capable of integrating and quickly establishing a manager position in a team, equally comfortable interacting with senior advisers and directing capable executives.
  • Coaches and supervises junior colleagues on accounts, including delegation, motivation, and development.
  • Gives final approval of work created by more junior colleagues, providing coaching and effective feedback.
  • Makes constructive proposals for changing and improving working practices in the team.

The ideal candidate profile:

  • Strong political insight and intuition with a shrewd understanding of the UK political and regulatory landscape, in particular in Financial Services.
  • Experience could be across any part of the financial services policy spectrum, in areas including sustainable finance, digital finance, markets legislation or prudential legislation.
  • Possesses an analytical mind with first class verbal and written communications skills. Expected to absorb and assess technical policy documents and other source materials, creating crisp summary copy and recommendations.
  • Has a nascent network in the Financial Services arena and a keen interest to grow this further.
  • Good experience (around 2-3 years), for example as a policymaker or working for a financial services institution, a trade association, a consultancy or possibly in a financial-services facing political role.
  • Dedicated to producing high quality work and going the extra mile in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience as a people manager or coaching others would be beneficial.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills to encourage respectful debate and is not afraid to take risks.
  • Is not afraid to break new ground and find new ways to solve old problems. An entrepreneurial approach, with the ability to think on your feet.
  • Enjoy working with people with a diverse range of backgrounds and opinions.

Benefits

  • 28 days’ paid leave plus bank holidays and time off over Christmas
  • Pension plan - 4% company contribution
  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • Normal working hours are 9am - 6pm
  • UK Office by London Bridge
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Option to access the ‘work from abroad’ policy for up to 20 days a year
  • The opportunity to opt in to Vitality including private health care and subsidised gym
  • Access to a full social and cultural calendar and employee wellness programmes
  • A rich and diverse people development programme including fortnightly internal training sessions and a full annual programme of external trainers and inspirational speakers.
