Public Affairs Associate

**Salary**: National - ranging from £38,300 to £47,300 per annum and London - ranging from £40,700 to £50,300 per annum

The team/ department

It is not often that you have the opportunity to join an organisation that genuinely makes an impact on, and for, consumers and financial businesses across Britain. You will work directly with MPs and their teams to make sure we explain the work we do and get the right outcomes for their constituents.

The role of the Communications division is to manage and promote the FCA's reputation. The Public Affairs team is the interface between the FCA and Parliament, advising the organisation on how to respond and engage with politicians and helping to ensure public confidence in our work by building good relationships in the public affairs area.

What you will be doing (the role)- Support the building information from networks across Parliament and in the wider public affairs arena to interpret political developments for the organisation whilst explaining FCA policy and action to these people and responding to their enquiries- Understanding the work of the FCA in your policy portfolio, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and work with colleagues to provide guidance to senior FCA staff, including the Chief Executive and the Chair- Acting as a briefing function, working closely with the team and the organisation to prepare senior management for public and parliamentary events- Help to understand and explain the political decisions that affect the financial services sector and work of the FCA to senior members of staff- Supporting the MPs' letters process- Supporting projects that ensure the FCA is communicating its work effectively to those involved in financial services policy

What you will get from the role- Working with senior leadership of the FCA to support high quality political engagement- Representing the Public Affairs team internally and organising internal communications in support of the team’s work- Working with politicians and their offices to help ensure public confidence in our role as a regulator

We support hybrid working which means you will be able to work from home up to 60% of the time over a month with the remainder of your time in one of our three office locations.

The skills and experience you will have

Minimum- Proven strong organisational skills including experience of dealing with multiple demands at the same time- Evidence of being able to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the political environment

Essential- Excellent attention to detail when drafting and reviewing briefings and responses- Able to develop strong relationships and networks across an organisation to ensure a joined-up approach and to deliver to strict deadlines- Experience in gathering of intelligence from multiple sources to identify risks and trends within the political environment- Experience of dealing with Parliamentary offices or government departments
