About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Manager for a 3-month contract to join a local authority team in Sutton. This role offers a hybrid working model and a competitive daily rate of £350.
As the Employee Relations Manager, you will review, develop, and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring they reflect changing legislation, streamline processes, and meet organisational objectives. Your focus will be on continuous improvement, customer focus, and maintaining good practice using a managed risk approach.
Key Responsibilities
HR Policy Development: Review, develop, and implement HR policies and procedures.
Consultation and Communication: Discuss and consult with trade unions on changes, develop and deliver briefings, management workflows, and training sessions.
Advisory Services: Provide complex advice and guidance on a range of operational people management issues, including employment terms, legislation, grievance, disciplinary matters, absence management, staff capability, performance management, and maternity/paternity policies.
Support and Advice: Assist managers in managing sickness, conducting investigations, and supporting hearings.
Organisational Development: Lead organisational development projects, including staff redeployment, transfer, or redundancy matters.
Job Evaluations: Conduct job evaluations to support effective delivery across the councils.
Requirements
Educational Ability: Bachelor's degree with honours, Graduate certificates & diplomas, professional qualifications, or equivalent experience.
Key Subject Areas: Strong understanding of people management, organisational development, and the underlying principles and practice.
Professional Experience:
Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or equivalent qualification/experience.
Detailed knowledge of employment legislation, HR policy, and procedures.
Significant experience advising managers on change processes and employee relations issues.
Proven track record of successful HR interventions in a large organisation.
Understanding of Public Sector terms and conditions and experience in a unionised environment.
Political and Organisational Awareness:
Experience working in a large, complex public sector environment.
Awareness of strategic organisational objectives and their relation to HR and OD functions.
