Upsilon Gallery is seeking an experienced Artist Liaison to join the gallery. Acting as a primary point of contact for artists on all matters, the Artist Liaison is also responsible for career strategy, studio liaison, exhibitions, and consignments. In addition, the Artist Liaison will participate in research to initiate and develop relationships with new artists. Successful candidates will have a strong network with museums and curators as well as a deep knowledge of the international contemporary art market. Candidates must have extensive curatorial experience in a museum or gallery and ideally experience of managing artist relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Candidates must be available to travel extensively and work non-standard hours and have the ability to work within the fast pace of a commercial gallery and with discretion.

 

 

ABOUT THE GALLERY:

 

Founded in 2016 by Marcelo Zimmler in New York City, Upsilon Gallery is a leading international art gallery specializing in abstraction and champions historically overlooked as well as emerging artists. Shaped by the diverse artists the gallery represents, Upsilon Gallery engages with art, publishing, and scholarship through a wide range of activities. After opening a second space in Miami, Upsilon Gallery opened in the summer of 2024 a new location in Mayfair, London, aiming to bridge the gap between European and US art scenes by introducing American artists and emerging voices to London. As a leading fine art print publisher, the gallery collaborates with renowned printing ateliers to introduce new voices to the art printing canon. Upsilon Gallery continues to inspire and innovate, advancing its mission through robust global programs and interdisciplinary projects.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

What you’ll do:

-      Coordinate and plan museum outreach with artist and estate managers for each gallery exhibition

-      Track museum contact changes and notify the sales team in a once-monthly newsletter

-      Work closely with the client development team to ensure institutional data is archived, updated and accurate in the gallery's records

-      Work closely with the marketing team to properly promote third party exhibitions through emails, social media, mailings, and events

-      Work closely with the marketing team to properly distribute UG books/catalogues to targeted institutions

-      Advocate for and develop public commission opportunities for gallery artists

-      Generate museum exhibition opportunities for artists and estates represented by Upsilon Gallery, focusing on the US and UK

-      Develop and implement strategic initiatives for the gallery’s institutional relationships

-      Facilitate and cultivate the gallery's conversations and initiatives with museums

-      Network with a younger, emerging, and international generation of museum professionals, curators, and cultural agents, building a network for long-and-short-term cooperation

-      Maintain a solid review of art world news, in particular institutional news


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

-     Minimum of 3 years of Artist Liaison or similar position experience

-     MA in art history/curatorial studies or comparable art subjects

-     Previous experience working with an art gallery, auction house or museum strongly preferred

-     Broad and in-depth knowledge of art history and the most recent developments in the contemporary art industry and the current intellectual discourse

-     Strong commitment to artists and the artistic program of the gallery

-     Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills

-     The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and work independently is a must

-     Must be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy in previous positions

-     Impeccable attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills. Exhibit the highest standards of verbal and written communication at all times

-     Skill in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders

-     Outstanding collaboration, teamwork and people skills

-     Flexibility to work some evenings when necessary, no task too small mentality

-     Excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite and database software, e.g. ArtLogic
