Role Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Head of Quality to lead quality management and process engineering within a dynamic manufacturing environment based in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. This key role is responsible for overseeing the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with AS9100 Rev D / ISO 9001:2015 standards, managing product quality across the manufacturing value stream, and upholding customer-specific requirements.
The Head of Quality will lead a skilled team, including Senior Quality Engineers, Process Engineers, Laboratory Technicians, and Inspectors. With a focus on continuous improvement, this role will drive the development of robust quality controls, support new product integration, and enhance quality processes within the ERP system. This position reports directly to the Operations Director and plays a crucial role in shaping the organization’s quality strategy.
Key Responsibilities for the Head of Quality Job:
* Team Leadership: Provide strategic direction and day-to-day management for the Quality and Process Engineering teams, fostering a culture of improvement.
* Quality System Management: Develop and implement quality controls across the manufacturing value chain, ensuring adherence to AS9100 Rev D / ISO 9001:2015 standards.
* Process Engineering Oversight: Design and optimize production processes, manage tooling, and implement production control systems.
* Compliance & Audits: Oversee all 3rd party audits and ensure compliance with Business Management System standards.
* Supplier Quality Management: Lead supplier quality processes, including audits as needed.
* Customer Concerns: Respond to customer quality issues using 8D/PPS processes, managing non-conformance issues to closure.
* Reporting & Reviews: Prepare monthly quality reports for the Board, manage the Quality budget, and chair Management Reviews with the Senior Management Team (SMT).
* Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing enhancements to quality management systems, inspection methods, and testing practices.
Essential Skills & Experience for the Head of Quality Job:
* Extensive experience in Quality Management within a complex manufacturing environment.
* Strong Process Engineering background with a focus on AS9100 Rev D / ISO9001:2015.
* Familiarity with AS9102 FAIR, APQP approaches (including PPAP, PSW), and quality control tools like PFMEA and Control Plans.
* Proficiency with engineering drawings and geometric tolerancing.
* Proven ability in 8D/PPS problem-solving and experience in inspection and laboratory processes.
