Driver Essential? Yes, automatic car to use on duty with the children. The family will be getting a Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV) soon. Non-smoker. This role is open to *female applicants only.

Days & Hours: Monday to Friday. School Holidays: 9.00am to 8.00pm, Term-Time: 7.00am to 11.00am, then 3.00pm to 8.00pm

About this client/child: Sarah, 8, is a cheerful girl who loves arts and crafts and is very creative. She will be learning to play the piano soon. Her big brother, Ben, 14 is a very intelligent, articulate young man, who is interested and curious about everything. He is also musical, playing the saxophone. Ben has a diagnosis of ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Ben sometimes displays behaviour that may seem challenging, such as not wanting to get ready for school, or making inappropriate comments to strangers. They live at home with their mum and dad, and of course, their beloved dog The children’s mum is a wheelchair user. She needs general assistance, for example to help get her to the toilet or make a cup of tea. Her disability limits what she can physically do. The children’s grandmother helps their mum, and around the house.
Overview of role: The primary focus will be supporting both children, starting with getting them ready for, and taking them to school, which is a drive away. This process can be lengthy; getting Ben ready for school can take some time and requires patience but also a consistent and fair but firm, approach is needed. Once the children have been dropped off at school, there are tasks to help around the house, this may include tidying up areas the children have used, their laundry or some batch cooking. In the afternoon, the children are picked up from school, Ben sometimes takes the school bus home and so is collected at the bus stop. Then it’s overseeing homework, giving the children their dinner and helping to get them ready for bed. During the school holidays, there is time to arrange some fun activities, trips to parks, museums or perhaps do some baking with the children. Sometimes you will have sole charge of the children, at others it may be a trip with the children’s dad. The family will be moving to a fully adapted house in the near future, which will be in the same area.
Who this job would suit: This will suit a lively, outgoing person, who likes to engage in some friendly banter. You’ll have a good sense of humour, and not take any unwanted comments from Ben personally. You’ll have experience supporting children on the autistic spectrum and have a genuine love of children – and dogs You’ll be patient, kind and flexible and adaptable. This role is only open to *female candidates.
