About the role:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive AV Support Technician to provide an exceptional AV Service to our staff. You will provide responsive in-person and remote assistance to staff in a range of spaces, supporting them with their use of AV equipment, and help to facilitate the delivery of AV for special events.

This is a full-time site-based role which will involve working on some weekends to support after-hours events.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Support the operation of AV facilities in all areas of the Museum, including lecture theatres, seminar rooms, permanent galleries, temporary exhibitions, meeting rooms, and educational spaces. This will involve the use of a wide range of AV equipment, presentation media, lighting, and sound systems, as well as installations for permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions. You will also support onsite, hybrid and online events.
  • Work and communicate closely with end users (internal and external), including identifying and satisfying their requirements.
  • Provide first line technical maintenance of equipment; capturing, understanding, and resolving problems as required, in line with best practice and agreed procedures.
  • Use basic technical skills to provide first line technical maintenance and develop and enhance those skills in line with Museum needs.
  • Install and maintain a variety of equipment including and not limited to, portable PA systems, PCs / laptops, cameras, media players, screens, projectors, and recording devices.
  • Aid PCs and servers, and understand basic networking to support the full AV service. 
  • Evaluate new AV technology.
  • Work collaboratively with the Service Operations Team and the wider department to support various first line tasks and projects. 

About you:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in an area of relevant technology (Sound/Visual/Art/IT). HNDs and other relevant qualifications will be considered.
  • Experience of working within an AV environment, ideally a large-scale cultural organisation or museum. Otherwise, such venues as conference centres or universities.
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of AV and related systems in a variety of formats, and a high level of IT literacy.
  • Demonstrable time management skills and an ability to work under pressure, as well as communicate, coordinate, and organise end users in a sensitive and diplomatic manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.  
  • Able to work unsociable hours when needed and weekends (typically one in every four).
