We welcome applicants with a clinical background to apply for the Band 8a Quality and Governance Matron The Quality and Governance Matron, using their knowledge of clinical and quality governance and experience, will support the Associate Director of Nursing & Care Group Triumvirate, to ensure the efficient and effective and co-ordinated governance of quality, patient safety, risk and incident management. They will work closely with the Associate Director of Nursing, as well as other key stakeholders to ensure measurable improvement within the Medicine Care Group and the Trust, and to ensure the Medicine Care Group meets statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements for safe and effective patient care. Interested applicants should contact Karen Strickland Associate Director of Nursing via Emily Powton (PA) Main duties of the job The Care Group Quality and Governance Matron will be working for an incredibly vibrant and fast paced Care Group within CDDFT. They will be working across 3 sites within CDDFT and will be required to provide and receive complex, sensitive and potentially contentious information in the area of clinical governance. The post-holder will be able to persuade, motivate and train all key stakeholders and provide direct support in meeting and achieving expectations of the Board in respsone to complaints, CQC enquires, PHSO enquires and support clinical teams produce reports in relation to patient safety issues and consideration for Coroners requests. Key lines of communication will be with the Associate Director of Nursing for the Medicine Care Group, the Senior Triumverate, General Managers, Matrons and Ward Managers. Challenge the status quo and lead on the development of the Governance structures within the Medicine Care Group Establish excellent working relationships with clinicians at all levels within the Care Group and across organisations to enable transformation and delivery on all areas of performance. Lead on the delivery of all aspects of performance including quality of services, patient experience, access, finance, governance, HR and organisational development. This extends beyond your direct area of influence to include leadership across other associated services and Care Groups. Lead on and be proactive in ensuring that the delivery of compliance with national requirements in relation to nursing quality measures and standards. Demonstrate a can do approach to problem solving and delivery of services. At all times demonstrate behaviours that are consistent with your role as a leader. Assist in the process of recruitment and retention of staff. Ensure that all staff are provided with the opportunity to develop skills to reach their maximum potential. Facilitate a family friendly environment whilst maintaining service needs. To support and develop new ways of working to continually improve the quality of the service. Ensure staff views are valued and acted upon. Ensure staff receive key information in an accurate and timely manner. Facilitate the provision of an environment conducive to the learning needs of all staff including students. Participate in staff appraisals, formulation of Personal Development Plans and succession planning for all staff whom direct line management is assigned too. Support staff with complex human resource issues, eg. Long term sickness, recruitment and retention, investigations potentially leading to disciplinary action. Observe the rules and The Code as laid down by the NMC / HCPC. To develop a key role in effective team working and building by maintaining effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups and external agencies. Ensure your practice, attitude and behaviour, and that of the staff, is in keeping within the maternity philosophy of care and trust values and behaviours framework. Act as a role model for all staff providing credible clinical leadership. Adopt a positive/can do approach to service changes and service delivery.   • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
Qualifications Essential
  • Registered Nurse / Registered AHP
  • Educated to degree level in Health Related Subject
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and application to practice
  • Experience of clinical governance & quality issues in health care
Desirable
  • Recognised Leadership and Management qualification
  • Working Knowledge of patient safety, clinical audit, patient experience, risk register processes
  • Masters Degree
Experience Essential
  • Significant post registration experience in an acute hospital setting. Band 7 or above or equitable experience
  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • Experience of clinical audit/ research and development processes and practice
  • Experience of quality and governance development and processes.
Desirable
  • Relevant experience of the health service within a clinical governance/quality related discipline
  • Working in an appropriate manner with patient sensitive data
  • Understanding of National Health Service improvement methodologies including: Productive Series
  • Relevant experience in communicating and facilitating work streams with patients / carers
  • Working with risk management processes including, patient safety, risk registers, CAS / NICE Guidance. Clinical audit
  • Management of complex data streams and ability to analyse data
