Job Purpose


The Early Years Practitioner will deliver the highest quality of care and education in line with YMCA's Early Years Pedagogy and Curriculum, the "YMCA Way" and Ofsted regulations.

They will inspire children's development by providing exciting, child-led, play-based activities utilising the outdoors wherever possible.

Every YMCA nursery has a quality plan and the postholder will be expected to assist in identifying areas of development to help the nursery achieve and sustain an Ofsted Outstanding grade.


Person Specification & Key Competencies

  • Level 3 childcare qualification or relevant experience and willingness to train
  • An understanding of the developmental needs of children
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding good practice
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification or willingness to train

  • A genuine enthusiasm for helping children under 5 achieve their potential
  • Ability to make activities fun
  • Ability to communicate with children and parents
