Job Introduction

We need an experienced senior communications professional with a brilliant strategic mind and expert media handling skills to ensure our campaigns hit the mark.

As
Head of Communications you'll lead on strategic planning to make sure our work is co-ordinated so we make the maximum impact in defending and enhancing the reputation of the BBC and creating buzz around key programmes.

You'll raise our game when it comes to tracking and measuring the success of campaigns to ensure they're making a difference.

And you'll provide leadership in the press office, handling sensitive press issues and projects and providing out of hours support.

This is a twelve month fixed-term contract role, based in London, with some flexibility ie hybrid working.

Main Responsibilities

As
Head of Communications you will be working with Director of Communications and Head of Press, constantly develop our structure for monitoring the highest priority communications campaigns across media, broader external comms and corporate affairs.


You will:

  • Agree objectives and performance metrics with campaign leads and other senior leaders in the communications team, bring your own expert insight to ensure campaigns are targeted effectively, and put in place systems for tracking and displaying relevant data to monitor performance.
  • Lead on strategic planning for the communications division and ensure a collaborative approach across external communications and campaigns.
  • Help to provide senior leadership in the press office, taking responsibility for specific corporate press issues and projects, including finance and NAO reports and providing senior backup out of hours.
To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Proven record of achievement in strategic communications gained at a senior level.
  • Highly experienced in crisis management and the ability to provide sound judgement under pressure to protect and enhance the BBCs reputation.
  • Experienced at strategic planning and campaigning, with proven ability to effectively measure and evaluate impact.
  • Able to influence senior stakeholders and teams you don't directly line manage.
  • Passionate about the BBC, its programmes and services.
