University of London Press - Journals Editorial Manager Reference Reference Categories Location London Location London Salary Benefits Salary Benefits Salary starting from £40,014 (pro-rated to £24,008 for 0.6 FTE, negotiable based on experience) Posted Posted 22 February 2024 Apply by 11 March 2024 Apply by 11 March 2024 Posted Posted 22 February 2024 Description

The University of London Press has a fantastic opportunity for a new Journals Editorial Manager to join its team at an exciting moment in its history.

We are a small, friendly team affiliated with the School of Advanced Study at the University of London. The School and its Institutes are home to a series of prestigious academic humanities journals across several disciplines, including the Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies and the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes. We are looking for a new part-time Journals Editorial Manager to join the team who will be responsible for managing these journals, with the possibility of exploring ideas for new journals to add to the University of London Press's own portfolio.

The role unusually sits between publishing and academia, liaising between the external publishers of the two journals and their academic editors, authors and colleagues at the Warburg Institute and the Institute of Classical Studies. The role reports to the Head of Publishing at the University of London Press, with the journals published by external publishers (currently Oxford University Press for the Bulletin of the Institute of Classical Studies, and Chicago University Press for the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes). The postholder will also contribute towards the wider strategic development of UoL Press, particularly in relation to changes in open access journal publishing and new innovative digital formats.

We are ideally looking for someone with experience in academic journal publishing or related industries but are also open to candidates with academic experience in relevant disciplines looking to acquire new publishing skills.

As the role sits between the relevant Institutes who publish the journals, the external publishers and the University of London Press team, we are particularly seeking candidates who have the ability and proven experience in working autonomously, managing multiple stakeholders across projects and successfully determining their own priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials for publication for relevant journals, ensuring journals publish on time and to a high standard;
  • Manage relationships with relevant stakeholders, including journal editorial teams, Institute Directors, external publishers;
  • Oversee the successful submission and production processes for journals and handle all queries relating to the journals;
  • Evaluate the journals in line with industry developments and Institute objectives and ensure agreed journal development plans are followed.

If you would like to make your mark publishing work which advances the humanities, please get in touch. Informal queries to Paula Kennedy, Head of Publishing ( ).

Salary: Starting from £40,014 (pro-rated to £24,008 for 0.6 FTE, negotiable based on experience).

This is a permanent, part-time (21 hours per week) role.
