- Job description
- We have an exciting opportunity as an Asset Inspector in our Asset Performance team in Ely. The inspection of our flood risk management assets is key to everything we do in our Asset Performance Teams.
You will inspect and report on the condition of our assets, as well as the health and safety elements, and feed information into the decision-making process as to how we manage our assets.
This is predominantly a field-based role, travelling to our assets to grade their condition. This role will involve a lot of walking and is perfectly suited to someone who enjoys the outdoors.There will be office elements to this role too as you enter your data into our systems and discuss asset conditions with members of your team.
You'll engage with your own team, other Environment Agency teams, as well as land owners and customers.Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.
You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
You will be expected to undertake the Asset Inspector training as soon as you begin your role.If you want to be a part of the solution to the climate change challenge, and part of a team of dedicated professionals, then this is the role for you.
The team- Working in the Ely Asset Performance Team, you will be part of the Operations department in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.
Asset Performance Teams are asset managers, involved in the inspecting, maintaining, fixing, decision making, health and safety, and data of our flood risk assets.
Asset Inspectors are key to the management of our assets. You will also work closely with other Asset Inspectors within the Area.- Experience/skills required
- Essential:
- Willing to work outside throughout the year.
- Able to work independently, plan your time and priorities, but also be a team player, able to communicate and discuss your findings with your team.
- Willing to learn new skills and train.
- Good communication skills; written and verbal and able to communicate confidently with landowners and customers
- Confident in handling data.
- Good IT skills, able to use MS packages and willing to learn new IT packages.
- Confident working with health, safety, and wellbeing procedures.
- Live within 45 minutes of the Ely Office. This is required to safeguard wellbeing and the regular travel required in your day job, incident response capabilities, and carbon efficiency.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Flood risk asset management knowledge, but all training will be provided
