We are currently looking for a permanent Electricity Standards Manager to join our growing Asset Management department on a remote basis with occasional visits to our Hamilton office.
Job Purpose:
• To review, author, develop, and maintain the company's suite of standards for the adoption of electricity network assets, and work on the company's electricity distribution networks.
• Responsibility for the overall management of the company Electrical Safety Management System.
• Provide technical leadership, knowledge, and support of all electrical activities to ensure compliance with the appropriate industry/company standards.
• Develop, and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including external industry organisations and forums, to ensure the company has a voice in industry change and future energy scenarios.
• Liaise with other company utility teams (Gas, Water, Wastewater, Heat), regarding consistent document presentation and layout, cross utility processes, and where harmonisation is desirable and practicable.
• Investigate and assess Distribution Future Energy Scenario impacts, as well as available technologies for future network innovations. Present and implement agreed improvements.

Your responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, continually review, and improve the company policies, procedures and performance across the business covering all electrical activities.
• Ensure that company standards are understood, implemented, and complied with by all relevant stakeholders.
• Responsible for the review of DNO/INA/BS standards, and incorporation into the companies own standards.
• Day to day activity and performance management of the company Electrical Safety Management System.
• Support the Asset Management and Asset Adoption teams to ensure electrical operational processes meet health and safety standards and relevant national accreditation.
• Responsible for assessing the competency of individuals and contractors providing authorisation for the appointment of Competent, Authorised Person and Senior Authorised Persons to work on the company's electricity distribution network.
• Maintain all individual and company records required to evidence and support the issue of associated authorisationsto operate on Last Mile Electricity networks.
• Liaise with ICPs to ensure compliance with the authorisation requirements to work on Last Mile Electricity networks.
• Provide technical support for the validation and authorisation of ICPs to allow the continued adoption of new electricity assets into the business, and connection to the network.
• Represent the company on industry panels and forums.
• Maintain industry knowledge and participate in industry events.
• Collate and analyse data for regulatory reporting, and submission of reports.
• Assist in other department activities as necessary, including incident management, customer complaints, reactive planned works etc.
• Inclusion on the company Standby Rota for out of hours incident cover.
• Investigate Distribution Future Energy Scenario impacts on LME networks, including Low Carbon Technology, such as electrification of transport and heat, distributed generation and energy storage.
• Investigate and assess available technologies for network monitoring and automation. Present analysis and recommendations for consideration. Manage implementation of agreed solutions up to BAU integration.
Experience / Knowledge:
- Advanced MS Office Skills (Word/Excel) to author documents and analyse data, including use of MS Word Styles, Cross References, Tables of Contents etc.
- Ability to author/review/develop standards, procedures, and specifications documents.
- Excellent knowledge of electricity distribution and construction legislation e.g ESCQR, Electricity Act, Electricity at Work Regulations, BS7671 etc
- Ability to communicate across all levels of the organisation.
- High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to convey technical information clearly in written and oral forms.
- Design experience of 33/11KV networks.
- Previous experience of technical authoring of electricity industry standards, processes and procedures.
- Experience of representation on Industry Forms.
- General appreciation of Gas/Water utilities.
Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering qualification, at ONC level or above, detailing significant operational experience and technical expertise.
- In depth knowledge of Distribution Safety Rules (DSR's).
- Excellent appreciation of electricity network design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- HNC, HND, or Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional qualifications, or recognised membership e.g. MIET, C.Eng, I.Eng.
- Experience of electrical distribution and/or transmission operations as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP).
