About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Standards Officer to join our small and friendly Standards team at IPSO - Independent Press Standards Organisation.

The Standards function plays a critical role in monitoring newspaper, magazine, and digital publishers' compliance with the Editors' Code of Practice. As a Standards Officer, you will be responsible for analysing information drawn from complaints received by IPSO, supporting the annual statements process, and engaging with representative groups who have concerns about press reporting.

You will work closely with the Head of Standards and other colleagues across IPSO to ensure that the press is held to account and that high standards are maintained in the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse information from complaints received by IPSO and identify areas for improvement
  • Support the annual statements process and ensure that all necessary documentation is completed
  • Engage with representative groups and stakeholders to address concerns about press reporting
  • Work closely with the Head of Standards and other colleagues to develop and implement strategies for improving editorial standards

Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of the Editors' Code of Practice and press regulation

  • A competitive starting salary of £33-£34K (subject to experience)
