The Role

Forming part of a close working senior management team, utilise inclusive, proactive leadership with a deep understanding of the relationship between academic study and student wellbeing, you will provide line management to some of the Student Wellbeing Adviser Team, actioning key personnel duties. You will play a key part within the case management escalation process to provide support to colleagues who are working with students experiencing a wide range of issues impacting their wellbeing.

The Student Wellbeing Advisers act as an initial point of contact for students and School based colleagues across the University and play a vital role in connecting central Student Health and Wellbeing Services with the wider University community.

The team offers confidential support and signposting for students experiencing any wellbeing related issue, as well as guidance to university colleagues. They also collaborate closely with School colleagues to deliver proactive activities and events to support students with improving and maintaining their wellbeing.

Alongside this, you will collaborate with colleagues to lead some SHWS Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) activities across the institution, via training and policy development.

A DBS check is required for this post. The post may require occasional out of hours actions to support students and colleagues in dealing with difficult and crisis situations.

This vital leadership role would suit a candidate with experience of working in dynamic and fast-paced settings with a contemporary understanding of the educational context.

This role is mainly campus based with some home working opportunities.

Key Accountabilities

Alongside the manager, lead and develop an effective, professional, welcoming, and accessible service. Addressing and responding to the diverse needs of the student populationProvide strong and effective line management to a number of direct reports, including delegated authority in the manager's absenceWork closely with the manager to implement team operational and personnel processesWhere required, represent the services and the University at local multi-disciplinary groups linked to student support and wellbeing. Work to build and maintain strong relationships in the interest of a safe, positive student experienceSupport the review and implementation of relevant Student Health and Wellbeing Service (SHWS) and University wide policies and procedures, e.g. Suicide Prevention, Fitness to StudyProvide, support and lead on any needed guidance, training and wellbeing awareness activity to the wider University community on a wide range of matters relating to student wellbeing e.g. E D I, hate crime awareness and prevention, active bystander training, suicide awarenessAs part of an escalation process, provide support to colleagues within the team, leading on more complex student cases, being a point of reference for students, parents, university colleagues and other key stakeholdersMaintain knowledge of current and pending relevant sector change, legislation, national and local policies and practices relevant to the role and use this knowledge to help inform the University's response to Student risk reduction and wellbeing provisionTake pro-active responsibility for own personal wellbeing and development within the role

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree or equivalent level qualification plus experience in a similar role or significant vocational experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding, relevant roles
