We have a rare and exciting opportunity available in Respiratory Outpatients for an experienced Healthcare Support Worker.

  • Help promote and maintain an environment conductive to meeting the needs of the patient, their relatives and friends, including ensuring they have access to water/food where appropriate.
  • Assist with the preparation of notes with relevant results for clinics.
  • Handle sputum sample pots and ensure they are sent to the labs with appropriate urgency.
  • To perform venepuncture for respiratory outpatient clinics and provide peak flow education.
  • Provide inhaler education and ensure correct technique.
  • To update the patient information display board on health education issues as agreed by the respiratory nurse specialists, using recommended evidence based resources.
  • To assist in maintaining a well stocked and clean environment including the ordering of relevant leaflets as agreed with trained nursing staff.
  • To chaperone patients for medical staff
  • After training, to assist medical staff/nurse practitioners with equipment for performing clinical procedures acting as an advocate for the patient at all times.
  • To ensure patients have safely left the department and that security measures are in place at the end of clinics
  • To provide a system for supplying monthly consumables to be sent to patients using specialised nebuliser equipment under supervision of trained member of staff
  • To assist in running a domiciliary nebuliser service
