Job summary

A rare opportunity has become available for an experienced nurse with significant Emergency Department experience to apply for the Emergency Department Matron position at The Princess Alexandra Hospital.

We are looking for an individual who is compassionate, transformational and has an inclusive leadership style. Your role will focus on the provision of high-quality, visible professional leadership, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence, improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers with a passion for staff well being.

You will work in the triumvirate management team for ED, which will also include a General Manager and Clinical Lead and will give you the opportunity to shape Emergency Care within the trust.

Main duties of the job

Key aspects of the role include:

Providing professional leadership and acting as a role model within the Division and the Trust. Developing leadership capability and attitudes by role modelling and effective use of relevant various leadership styles. Ensuring that clear agreed policies, procedures and protocols are in place to support the delivery of safe services and care to patients. Effective leadership of change, embedding a culture of continuous quality improvement, innovation and use of technology that meets the changing needs of patients and users. Acting as an expert clinical resource within the areas of responsibility utilising highly specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and practice experience. Leading on and facilitate strong clinical governance processes to ensure patient safety, experience and learning.

Our Organisation

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered nurse with significant previous experience Educated to degree level Evidence of continuous professional development Clinical leadership qualification or equivalent Mentorship qualification Qualification in the area of specialism (Emergency Care)

Desirable

Masters in relevant health related subject or actively working towards Teaching and assessment qualification

Experience

Essential

Substantial and relevant post registration experience Ability to demonstrate collaborative working across professions and services Significant experience of working in a senior nursing role including nursing management of team leadership Experience of effectively leading and implementing transformational change Experience of delivering education and developing and implementing evidence based practice Experience of managing a clinical team including significant experience of staff management, including the setting of team and individual appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary issues. Budget management experience, including reducing costs, monitoring and determining corrective action
