Data Protection Lead

Islington Council is looking for a highly knowledgeable and experienced Data Protection Lead to work as part of the Information Governance Team to support the Data Protection Managers and the Data Protection Officer (DPO).


The role will work to embed the highest standards of Data Protection within the council, ensuring that the council complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.

The role will provide specialist advice on matters relating to data protection within the council and to schools.

The post-holder will need to be aware of the bigger picture both within the Council and externally and will have an important role in the council's continuing compliance with legislation.


Working under the direction of the Data Protection Manager, you will be part of a small and busy, but friendly and supportive, Information Governance Team which provides assurance to the council and schools on matters to do with data protection and access to information legislation.

Act as the first point of contact for the Schools DPO Service and provide specialist advice on data protection matters including providing twilight training for the Schools DPO Service

Support the council's management of data breach reports including coordinating the council's response to any subsequent investigation

Support the Data Protection Managers to provide specialist advice on matters relating to data protection within the Council

Work with Directorates to ensure that Data Protection Impact Assessments and Data Sharing Agreements are created in a timely manner

Work with the Information Governance Team to develop and embed data protection policy and standards and work to ensure the council meets the accountability requirements as set out in legislation

Support the delivery of specialist training to all levels of staff within the organisation on all matters relating to Data Protection
