The Opportunity:

  • At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Customs Lead. Leonardo is a global hightech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence and Security. Headquartered in Italy, Leonardo has over 45,000 employees, of which 7,000 are based in the UK.We are seeking a Customs Lead to work within its Trade Compliance Function to support the management of all aspects of UK Customs Control and Compliance and, as required, to primarily focus on UK Customs activities, but may be asked to provide guidance on nonUK customs arrangements required as they relate to Leonardo UK's overseas activities.

As a Customs Compliance Subject Matter Expert, you will provide business support services including advice and guidance to Leonardo UK's divisions and functions to ensure Customs compliance.

With a home base from one of Leonardo UK's facilities, the role will involve UK travel and possibly international travel.

Leonardo supports a mixture of onsite and home based working.

    What you will do:
  • Reporting to the Head of Trade Compliance UK, this role is responsible for the following:
  • Developing the customs management programme in the UK including processes, training, controls and systems verifying and reporting on customs metrics, driving continuous improvement efforts across the organisation, and collaborating with other parts of the Trade Compliance team to drive a fully aligned organisation.
  • Work in collaboration with the tax team to ensure correct use of financial facilities including deferment accounts and PVA.
  • Ensure maintenance of and compliance with all customs related requirements associated with the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme.
  • Oversee the compliance and daytoday operational requirements for the use of the Inward Processing, Outward Processing, Temporary Admission and Customs Warehousing regimes and ensure timely reporting to HMRC.
  • Leading critical customs programme initiatives, particularly in the area of duty mitigation.
  • Harmonizing customs processes across the UK facilities, e.g. standardising key elements, such as valuation, countryoforigin determinations, classification and broker management.
  • Compiling, verifying and reporting of critical customs metrics for monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Working with the Head of Trade Compliance in respect of communications with local Customs authorities, including responding to government audits and inquiries.
  • Identify compliance gaps, lead investigations and identify and support implementation of required corrective actions where appropriate. Support and advise during inquiries and investigations of customs activities for Leonardo UK business locations, including remediation activities and corrective action implementation.
  • Participate on future IT initiatives ensuring customs requirements are appropriately addressed.
