Safety Coherency Engineer - Submarines

Faslane, Scotland

Full Time

Why Rolls-Royce?

An exciting Safety Coherency Engineer opportunity has arisen at our Faslane site supporting the NRPA and Babcock to enhance the company's performance on product safety, and to implement the organisation's safety management system across the Clyde Base Community.

T his is a truly unique opportunity offering the chance to work directly with customers, suppliers and partners sharing knowledge and expertise with a wider UK Safety Team.

We're a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority.

Join us and we'll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

It's not every day that you can say that the work you do helps keep the UK safe, but that is just one of the unique benefits of securing a role within Rolls-Royce Submarines. You will be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of engineering principles and preferably have a general understanding of submarine nuclear systems, or be willing to attend the relevant residential courses.

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will be working closely with stakeholders at all levels across customer, supplier and partner organisations to include the NRPA and Babcock. There will also be the opportunity to visit and work with other Rolls Royce sites.

This is an excellent opportunity to enhance the company's performance on product safety, and to implement the organisation's safety management system.

You will be d efining technical packages/investigations of work providing delivery against programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale and quality requirements;

  • Applying safety or plant engineering experience to identify effective solutions to problems relating to our safety management systems
  • Point of contact locally for safety management and to share subject matter knowledge across the function.
  • Providing advisory services to designated customers, influencing their peer group, representing senior departmental staff and acting as advisor/coach on matters where they are technically authoritative.
  • Actively promoting, encouraging and supporting the identification and implementation of continuous improvement (of tools, processes and methods) both within their immediate sphere of safety management specialism and outside, and prompt action across the wider team.

Who we're looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

  • Experience of Nuclear Safety Case or Plant Operator experience (Category A or B Nuclear Watchkeeper)
  • Nuclear Plant or Site Safety Case writing background
  • Customer, Supplier or Stakeholder management experience at all organisational levels
  • Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks.
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.

We're an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives.

And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global inclusion strategy at

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
