  • Job description
  • You will play an important role in planning for, responding to, and recovering from flood and environment incidents in Kent, South London and East Sussex (KSLES).

You will primarily lead activities for the Training and Exercising portfolio, to enhance our incident management (IM) service, ensuring that our duty officers have the capability and confidence to respond to incidents.


  • Develop and maintain a training and exercising plan, prioritising needs based on the risk, and resource available.
  • Act as an incident role lead and coordinate other incident role leads to ensure role holders are trained and capable.
  • Be an integral part of our debrief service, driving improvements in our incident management service.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain incident management systems and equipment.
  • Provides specialist technical input to our Incident Management Centre for Excellence.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

  • You will need to be a natural leader who has proven understanding and experience of incident management and the role of the Environment Agency in incidents. You will need to be agile and dynamic to situations, enabling you to continuously reprioritise your work without losing sight of the longterm vision and our local ambitions.

  • Your base location can be any KSLES office. You will need to be able to travel regularly to our incident room at our West Malling office. There will be occasions when working from an office location will be essential and other occasions optional with home working.
