Medical Devices Coordinator

Canterbury, Kent, United Kingdom East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Are you an experienced user of medical devices? Are you passionate about governance and patient safety?

We have a vacancy for a Medical Devices Coordinator, who will liaise with clinical staff on matters surrounding the life-cycle of medical devices, including specification and procurement, user training, safety alerts, and risk management.

You will need to be a registered healthcare professional, i.e. Nurse, Midwife, ODP or AHP.

The role of Medical Devices Coordinator is varied, including activities such as conducting audits, delivering training, investigation of incidents involving medical devices, and processing medical device field safety notices.

You will coordinate between technical, clinical, and administrative teams, from a wide range of professional backgrounds, and therefore must have good communication and negotiation skills, as well as a drive towards problem-solving.

The work of the Medical Devices Governance Team involves capture and analysis of data using a range of software systems, so we are looking for someone who is good with technology, and not afraid to learn new skills.

The Medical Devices Governance Team is part of the expanding Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department, which is raising its profile within the Trust and building networks with other Trusts and Universities.

We are committed to providing a high quality, safe and effective service. We are able to offer opportunities for career development and progression within a vibrant, progressive and supportive team.

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000.

We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.

We care about our patients and our people.

We are focused on providing outstanding, safe patient care, and a positive working culture that benefits staff and patients alike.

With our emphasis on staff training and development, a staff support scheme that's second to none, and a healthy package of benefits, it's easy to put down roots in East Kent Hospitals.

We offer a full package of benefits, including a car lease scheme; on-site childcare; generous annual leave in line with NHS terms and conditions; high street and public transport discounts; a 24/7 staff support service - and the little things that make life easier, like on-site Amazon lockers and fresh fruit and veg stalls.

The Medical Devices Governance Team (MDGT) provides EKHUFT with assurance around medical device safety and regulatory compliance, including (but not limited to):

  • Implementation of safety alerts
  • Investigation of incidents
  • Risk management
  • Medical device training
  • Standardisation and prioritisation of devices during procurement
  • Oversight of research involving medical devices
As one of our Medical Devices Coordinators, the post holder will:

  • Review medical device related incidents and investigate where required
  • Champion the safe and effective use of medical devices, and provide advice on best practice
  • Riskassess field safety notices, coordinate action, and gather assurance
  • Liaise with clinical staff across the Trust
  • Take part in, and lead, medical device safety projects and initiatives
  • Participate in relevant governance meetings, committees, and working groups
  • Support the rollout of new medical equipment across the Trust
  • Support the Medical Devices Group in developing and implementing the Trust's Medical Devices strategy
  • Conduct audits of medical equipment and training records
  • Support the development and rollout of a medical device training and competence database
  • Coordinate and deliver medical device training to clinical users
  • Work within an ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System
  • Manage and prioritise own workload
