We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Group Head of Plant and Transport to come and join us based in Levenshulme.


The Head of Plant and Transport is responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and efficient operation of all plant and transport equipment within the company.

This role ensures the availability, reliability, and safety of machinery and vehicles, contributing to the smooth execution of projects and overall operational efficiency.


Key responsibilities

Strategic Management:

  • Develop and implement the plant and transport strategy aligned with the company's goals.
  • Monitor industry trends and technological advancements to ensure the company's plant and transport operations remain competitive.

Operations Management:

  • Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and disposal of all plant and transport assets.
  • Ensure the availability and operational efficiency of equipment and vehicles to support project requirements.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to maximize the lifespan and reliability of equipment.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the plant and transport budget, ensuring costeffective operations.
  • Monitor and control expenditure to achieve financial targets.
  • Analyse financial performance and implement measures to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Implement and maintain safety management systems and conduct regular safety audits.
  • Promote a safety culture within the plant and transport team and across the company.

Team Management:

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of plant and transport professionals.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide training and development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Vendor and Supplier Management:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and service providers.
  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure quality and costefficiency.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues promptly.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all plant and transport operations comply with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by law and company policies.
  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies and participate in audits and inspections.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the performance of plant and transport operations.
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management on operational performance, financial status, and strategic initiatives.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in plant and transport management, preferably within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
  • Indepth knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problemsolving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems (e.g., fleet management software, ERP systems).
