We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed-term Band 7 SLT to join our community SLT team, working across our special schools team, mainstream schools team and our secondary stammering service. This role is ideal for people who are interested in developing their leadership skills at Band 7 level and contributing to the development of the service.

  • Experience of, and highly specialist skills working with, a diverse paediatric school-age caseload
  • Experience of supporting the evaluation of service delivery in schools
  • Experience in developing and delivering universal and / or targeted level offers to schools
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-agency team
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently where necessary
  • Enthusiasm, imagination, and initiative
  • Understanding of the neurodiversity framework
Main duties of the job
  • To contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of service delivery within mainstream schools, Paddock special school and the secondary stammering service.
  • To demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills in an area relevant to therapy in mainstream and special schools and dysfluency.
  • To lead/supervise others within the service and to act as a resource and support for other therapists working with children with speech, language, and social communication difficulties.
  • To be responsible for the management of a caseload of children with developmental speech and language delays/disorders and social communication difficulties in mainstream schools and special schools.
  • To be responsible for the management of a caseload of secondary-aged children with dysfluency.
  • To provide line management to junior staff and SLTAs and participate in and provide clinical supervision and support as required.
  • To work with parents, carers, school staff and other agencies involved in the children's care as well as part of a multi-agency team.
  • To work as a member of the community paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Team.

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • HCPC registration and RCSLT registration
Desirable
  • Gestalt Language Processing short course/training
  • Post-graduate training in dysfluency
  • Post-graduate training in AAC
Knowledge Essential
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the National Curriculum and SEND Code of Practice
  • Extensive knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group eg. AAC, narrative intervention etc
  • Knowledge of formal and informal assessments relevant to the client group
Skills Essential
  • Ability to identify own learning needs utilising the appraisal process and in line with personal and service development needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families/carers, education staff and other multiagency professionals
  • Ability to effectively supervise and support others
Experience Essential
  • Relevant post graduate experience in assessment and intervention of students aged 5-16 years with a variety of speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Relevant post graduate experience of working within schools with a range of school-based staff
Desirable
  • Relevant post-graduate experience of working within a special school
