Job Purpose


To manage and develop the Master Data generation and data integrity processes for all Material Master Data in SAP ECC and SAP APO.

Develop and enforce robust business processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and standardisation where applicable of Master Data across all business areas.

Responsible for defining and maintaining all Master Data Standards documentation.

Identifying and liaising with Business Process owners across all business functions, to ensure SAP based business processes are supported by master data standards.

Liaising with IT, to ensure Master Data Standards support all legacy and future SAP ECC and APO implementations. Liaising with external bodies such as GS1, to ensure best practice approaches are adopted in Master Data management. Responsible for ensuring compliance to master data standards during data entry and reconciliation.


Responsible for ensuring all new requests for Material Master Data are completed accurately and within lead time, and that business processes for new data submissions are strictly adhered to.


Responsible for on-going data integrity through regular Master Data reviews, and liaison with Business Process Owners to ensure accuracy of business standard documentation.

Identifying and ensuring compliance on business critical Master Data, supporting compliance with HSE and Trading Standard legislation.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring all new product Master Data is created accurately in SAP ECC and SAP APO, and within lead time. Ensuring all requests from Commercial and NPD relating to new Master Data adhere to agreed standards, and contain all relevant information. Using system tools to create all required Master Data in line with agreed data templates.
  • Responsible for generating and maintaining Master Data Business Standard documentation for all Master Data elements. Define and maintain all relevant Master Data templates relating to various business scenarios. Agree standard Master Data settings with Business Process Owners by business area, to ensure that new product Master Data can be created efficiently and accurately. Update or create new data templates as business circumstances change.
  • Ensure compliance to GS1 industry body Barcode standards, and in line with customer requirements.
  • Act as Business Expert in the Master Data field, with the ability to analyse and resolve any issues relating to data integrity.
  • Responsible for monitoring Master Data integrity within SAP ECC and SAP APO, and taking corrective action as required. Biannual checks of all Material Master Data elements, with reference to agreed data template standards. Identification of all data inconsistencies, and subsequent corrective action in conjunction with Business Process Owners. Work with stakeholders to improve long term data integrity levels on all Master Data.
  • Identify and manage business critical Master Data, where data integrity will have a direct impact on compliance with legal obligations.
  • Maintain and publish all relevant KPIs in relation to Master Data creation and integrity. Number of new data requests, creation timescales, Master Data accuracy.
  • Work with Master Data Manager to develop and improve Master Data creation and Data Integrity processes, in order that overall data accuracy is guaranteed.
  • Prepare packaging usage declaration for the business, in line with packaging waste legal obligations.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Graduate calibre
  • Knowledge of industry best practice in the field of Master Data management, GS1 barcode standards.
  • Responsible for data across a wide range of business functions, so a broad understanding of other business areas is required; particularly Planning, Logistics, Forecasting, Buying, Technical and Sales.
  • Advanced user of SAP ECC and SAP APO. Expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous experience in Master Data management and data input functions.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and a strong focus on attention to detail.
