We are a 22 bed inpatient ward and an adjacent paediatric assessment unit in which we treat children aged from new-born to 18 years old with a broad range of paediatric conditions including surgery, oncology, orthopedics and ENT.

We are looking for a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Children's Ward team. We are looking for someone who has excellent leadership skills who can support and motivate staff across the unit to provide safe and effective care.

The successful candidate will have a focus on quality and will the lead the team to develop team objectives and ongoing development opportunities for the team

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Children's Ward Manager at GWH.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated leader with a clear drive for quality and quality improvement to join our team.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily clinical and operational management of the Children's Ward/Assessment Area and the professional development of staff.

The ward manager will have continuing responsibility and accountability for their team and provide transformational leadership to promote a positive culture in which a highly motivated nursing team can flourish. The ward manager will lead and manage the nursing team in delivering high quality care to young people and children.

The post holder will deliver key performance targets aimed at improving quality, reducing risk, improving patient experience and ensuring sound financial and human resource management within the clinical area. The posy holder will working closely with the Matron and the wider multi-disciplinary team (both with the unit environment and externally ) to ensure the delivery of effective pathways of care for patients within the sub specialties of the acute childrens services.

Registered Sick Children's Nurse or Registered General Nurse or registered midwife Degree level qualification. Teaching and assessing qualification. (FLAP) EPALS Evidence of on-going continuous professional development

Experience

Essential

Significant experience of working within an acute hospital environment. Thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice within specialty area and the application of this in practice. Significant post registration experience, at band 6 or above. Understanding and application of the principles of Clinical Governance, Risk and Safety Management, Clinical Auditing and an Assurance Framework. An understanding of safeguarding adults, children and babies at risk Evidence of practical application of leadership qualities Demonstrates evidence of ability to educate others. An understanding of effective change management. ? Experience of working as a preceptor/mentor. ? Ability to understand and apply evidence based practice. ? Understanding and application of effective budgetary management. ? An understanding of the neonatal network ? An understanding of Badger Net requirements. ? Understanding and application of Human Resource management. ? Able to demonstrate knowledge of Local and National issues affecting the speciality.
