Locum Consultant Community Paediatrician

Blackpool, Blackpool, United Kingdom Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

There is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a community consultant in the Families and Integrated Community Care Division.

This up to 8 PA newly created post is to support the recently developed neurodevelopmental pathway as the team continues to ensure the delivery of high-quality regional level key performance indicators for families on the pathway. Whilst this is a locum post, a substantive post will be advertised in due course that the postholder could apply for.

Time is provided in the job plan for pathway panel meetings and panel feedback. The post holder will also attend the child developmental centre twice a week, contributing to the pre-school age service and therefore offering a varied clinical caseload as part of this exciting new opportunity.

Our paediatric team has got a strong reputation of providing both undergraduate and postgraduate training. Our team hosts both MRCPCH and DCH examinations on yearly basis and you will be encouraged to develop as an examiner for Royal Colleges.

These are exciting opportunities for a motivated and committed individual. Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date for the post. Evidence of this status must be included in your application.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be appointed as Locum Consultant Community Paediatrician, joining our team of 15 WTE consultants delivering integrated paediatric care to Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. Note within the Consultant body there are already 4 Community-Only Consultant Paediatricians and 3 Consultant Paediatricians that deliver both Acute and Community Paediatric care, in addition to 9 acute only consultants.

The post advertised is a newly created role that backfills existing Community Consultant activity as the team has been re-organised to meet the requirements of the Neuro-developmental (ND) pathway. The postholder will therefore take part in the range of activities needed to serve a geographical catchment, allowing community-based building of strong inter-professional and organisational relationships. This will be very responsive to the imminent integrated care system. Our delivery of the Neuro-developmental pathway has been recognised by our partners and commissioners and this led to the creation of this role to continue the high quality multi-agency child focussed assessment and support work that it delivers.

There is no on call component in this role, although there may be some responsibility for acute safeguarding assessments along with the wider team.

The goal would be that the caseload in these clinics would be based on the Blackpool geography to allow the postholder to give continuity as their patients move out into school aged services

About us

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.

Job description
Job responsibilities

The post holder will cover a catchment of schools within the Blackpool area, joining colleagues with catchments in Fylde and Wyre. They will see children in school age community clinics, as well accepting neurodevelopmental pathway referrals from these areas with administrative and clinical support from the neurodevelopmental team.

There is the chance to develop an interest area to complement the community team. Additionally, the team is able to help the post holder develop specific skills as needed such as ADOS-2 assessments. Applicants with varying experience can be accommodated and support offered to develop within the role, based on the candidate experience and so we would invite informal pre-application enquires as necessary.
