Children's Occupational Therapy Assistant

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their career as a Children's Occupational Therapy Assistant working with children within a special school, under the supervision of the Occupational therapist.

We are seeking an individual who is self-motivated, friendly, enthusiastic and keen to work with and support children and young people with autism. The successful candidate will be based at Drumbeat school, although the role will involve travelling across the various sites. This role is part time for 3 days per week.

The Occupational Therapist Assistant role:

· Working jointly with the therapist to devise and implement interventions for pupils with more complex needs.

· Working independently to implement Occupational Therapy programmes (individual or group) for pupils

· To keep up to date, accurate and timely clinical records

· Liaise with other professionals regarding the needs of the pupils

· Design and create resources for individual student sessions

· Provide administrative support to the OT as required

· Support and train school staff, parents/carers on various aspects of therapy programmes as designated by the OT

· To manage the Occupational Therapy equipment loans and keep accurate records of loans and returns

· To identify, source and order equipment to support the pupils at school

· To undertake specific functional assessments of pupils to identify needs and interventions required under the guidance of the OT

· To participate in service and departmental initiatives to develop and enhance the service.

Requirements for the position:

Experience of working in SEN schools or health setting

Previous experience of working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant or generic therapy assistant is desirable

Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) attained at level C or above

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Some knowledge of Autism is desirable

Organised, creative, friendly, hard-working and resilient with a good sense of humour

Self-motivated and can take the initiative and ability to work independently

Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills

Computer skills, keyboard and use of IT systems (Microsoft word and excel)
