The purpose of this post is to cover class teachers when they are on their PPA time or Management time, supporting pupils and staff to ensure that all pupils reach their full potential.

To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This will involve planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or short-term for the whole class. It will also involve monitoring pupils then assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' achievement, progress, and development.

Supporting the pupil


• Assisting pupils in the acquisition of reading, writing and maths skills.
• Assisting pupils in the acquisition of the correct pencil grip, sitting position and letter formation.
• Assisting pupils in making good progress across all subject areas through instant feedback during lessons (green and pink marking) and through books being marked fully at the end of lessons.
• Working with pupils on an individual or group basis as required by the class teacher.
• Assisting in offsite visits.
• Aiding pupils with special needs to access all subjects of the national curriculum and encourage their independence as learners.
• Ensuring that all pupils follow the good sitting rules.
• Ensuring that all pupils follow the STARS values and behaviour expectations of the school
• Ensuring pupils understand instructions.
• Motivating and encouraging pupils to behave well in and around school.
• Acquainting themselves with the support materials in and around the school for individual pupils or group use.
• Assisting the teacher in developing a supportive and trusting relationship with other adults and children.
• Promoting and reinforcing pupil self-esteem through praise and encouragement.
• Being sensitive to the general welfare and care of all pupils within the school, drawing areas of concern to the attention of the class teacher.
• Meeting the physical and/ or hygiene needs of pupils as required.

Supporting the teacher


• Accessing the planned teaching and learning activities for the class.
• Planning additional learning opportunities as required.
