About the role:

Digital Transformation is at the heart of our recently released 10-year Strategy, and we have the ambition to expand our technology capabilities, to enable innovation, and deliver better services for our students and staff.

This is an exciting time in Digital Services as we transform with pace and agility, to help the University achieve its vision to provide inspiring education and research, working in partnership with our communities to become a truly inclusive university.

There is an exciting opportunity for a Networks System Administrator to join our established Infrastructure and Operations team, where you will be responsible for the installation, configuration for our networking infrastructure, including the implementation of networks as part of improvement projects, new builds and office refurbishments.

Our data networking infrastructure includes copper cabling, optical fibre, equipment rooms (wiring closets and racks), Cisco switches, Cisco routers, Cisco firewalls, Cisco VPN, Cisco wireless access points, authentication devices and network management systems.

The network serves all University buildings across around 120 sites within Leicester.

In addition to focusing on core technologies, you will get the opportunity to develop a broader set of skills that cover virtualisation, firewalling and data centres, as well as being able to play a key role in a wider network refresh valued at £5.5 million.

About you:

  • Experience working in a complex landscape with a strong background in Cisco administration.
  • Hands on experience of installing, configuring and managing Cisco equipment (racking hardware, cabling, security, inventory management)
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and an ability to prioritise and organise workloads

Experience with any of the following:

  • Cisco Catalyst switches
  • Cisco ASAs and/or FirePower firewalls
  • Cisco Aironet Wireless Access Points and WLC's
  • Monitoring tools (e.g., Cisco Prime, Solarwinds, Cacti)

Additional information:

Applications for job share will be considered.

We anticipate that interviews will take place during the week commencing 24th June 2024.

The University of Leicester has been changing the world, and changing people's lives, for 100 years.

When you join us, you'll become part of a community of Citizens of Change, which includes not only our staff and our current students but also thousands of Leicester graduates around the world.

As a diverse and forward-thinking employer, we embed the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into everything we do.

That includes not just our core missions of teaching and research, but also our support for staff, students and our local community.

We're committed to the wellbeing of all our staff and to the sustainability of our environment, on our campus and beyond.
