BACKGROUND

Join us in our search for an experienced individual to take on a senior leadership role with a focus on Science and Innovation Delivery infrastructure. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the Executive Leadership Team, working alongside key members to align transformative initiatives with our strategic goals. Your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring that the Institute achieves its key missions.

As the leader overseeing the delivery infrastructure, you will be responsible for uniting various functions and crafting an efficient operating model to drive the organization's objectives. This role is pivotal in integrating key areas of the Institute to maximize their potential in advancing the science and innovation agenda.

This leadership position involves overseeing approximately 100 individuals across the following areas:

  • Data Wrangling: Building data strategies to support research initiatives and the Institute's mission, including fostering data culture and collaborations, managing health data frameworks, and prioritizing EDI in the research team.
  • The Programme Management Unit: Managing research and innovation projects, training, and knowledge exchange in data science and AI.
  • The Research Engineering Group: Providing expertise in research software engineering and data science to support key challenges and research infrastructure.
  • Tools, Practices and Systems (TPS): Overseeing initiatives to build open-source infrastructure, connecting data with experts, and promoting best practices in data science and AI.

The Director of Delivery Infrastructure will establish strong relationships internally and externally, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values during this transformative period.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate holds a degree in technology, science, or engineering with a proven track record of leading operational teams within a complex organization. Experience in computational infrastructure, data standards, and project management is essential. Moreover, the candidate should possess a deep understanding of research challenges to drive impactful outcomes.

DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Contribute to the organization's strategy and research initiatives.
  • Provide operational support for research projects.
  • Stay informed about advancements in data science and AI.
  • Develop and implement funding strategies.
  • Assist in operational transformations.
  • Ensure a sustainable operating model is in place.
  • Oversee strategic planning and financial analysis.

Terms and Conditions

This full-time permanent position offers a starting salary of £120,000 per year with exceptional benefits, including flexible work arrangements.

The Alan Turing Institute is located at the British Library in London's Knowledge Quarter. Candidates are expected to be in the office at least 4 days a month, with some roles requiring additional office presence.
