As the regulator for the energy industry in Great Britain, Ofgem ensures a safe, sustainable energy supply for British households and businesses.

As a leader of the External Communications & Stakeholder team, you will be in charge of guiding, developing, and executing communication and engagement activities. You will lead a team that interacts with various stakeholders, such as energy suppliers, trade associations, and local authorities. Your expertise in different communication disciplines will be crucial in creatively reaching our audiences through traditional and social media channels.

Within the wider Delivery & Schemes communications team, you will oversee a team that highlights Ofgem's role in implementing environmental and social schemes - from insulating homes for those in fuel poverty to promoting green energy generation through renewables. Providing strategic communication and stakeholder engagement guidance to the Delivery & Schemes board and Senior Leadership team will be part of your responsibilities. You will be a self-motivated individual who takes ownership of achieving communication and engagement goals in a dynamic leadership role.

Representing Delivery and Schemes within the stakeholder communications sub-profession, you will ensure alignment with the corporate communications strategy. Your role will involve developing the broader communications team within Delivery and Schemes, reporting directly to the Head of Communications. Your support will be instrumental in enhancing the team's capabilities to meet their objectives.

Person Specification

Key Responsibilities:

  • This role involves leading a team within the wider Delivery and Schemes communications team, responsible for external engagement for the directorate.
  • Representation of Delivery and Schemes within the stakeholder sub-profession.
  • Developing and executing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned with Ofgem Corporate Strategy and communications strategy.
  • Leading the Delivery and Schemes Stakeholder Engagement team, fostering a culture of innovation, implementing new practices, and integrating them into the communications profession within Delivery and Schemes directorate.
  • Playing a pivotal role in the broader Communications Profession, mentoring communication staff across the organization, and leading interdisciplinary teams for key projects.
  • Demonstrating a track record of promoting diversity and inclusion through communication and engagement efforts.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in developing and executing strategic, multi-channel communications strategies and plans, ideally within the GCS frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking and long-term communication and stakeholder engagement to meet corporate objectives.
  • Strong skills in written and verbal communication, presentations, negotiation, collaboration, and a history of successful campaign delivery.
  • Building strong and influential relationships at senior levels both internally and externally.

Desirable Criteria

  • Broad understanding of the UK's political/regulatory landscape and the energy industry.
  • Appreciation of EDI importance and the role of communication and engagement in EDI strategy.
