About the role

This role will support the Balfour Beatty Head of Health and Head of Health & Safety in the development, implementation and delivery of our established Health and Wellbeing (H&W) Strategy and our objectives, working alongside other internal and external stakeholders to fulfil our key deliverables.

The role will assist the delivery of the Balfour Beatty H&W Strategy and will organise and coordinate the activities required to promote, maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of our people and our supply chain subcontract partners.


The H&W strategy is fully aligned to the HSES Strategy and builds on the commitments made to support Zero Harm, tackle occupational disease and treat health like safety.


The aim of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy is to promote and support a healthy organisation that goes beyond statutory obligations to support healthy and successful working lives and provide positive outcomes for our employees, our partners and the communities we support and interact with.


What you'll be doing
As a Health & Wellbeing Advisor, you will have the following accountabilities:

  • To provide guidance, support, advice to colleagues and managers in relation to all Health and Wellbeing matters.
  • To provide guidance, support, advice and compliance monitoring on the H&W strategy.
  • To ensure compliance with the Balfour Beatty HSES integrated Business Management System (BMS), Legislation, BSI requirements and Client standards.
  • To provide onsite engagement, coaching and support on H&W and promote safe and healthy behaviours on site.
  • Producing and managing regular H&W communications.
  • Collating health and wellbeing statistics and performance metrics.
  • Driving a positive Health & Wellbeing culture, actively promote and champion Health & Wellbeing initiatives.
  • Assessing physical and psychological health and safety risks and providing recommendations with regards to health & wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Zero Harm Action Plan
  • Undertake planned & unplanned inspections, audits, joint tours and reviews of projects
  • Produce formal reports on findings and communicate these to the project.
  • Contribute to local and national H&W projects
  • Be involved at the planning stage to support design teams to identify and control risk.
  • Engage with site teams to identify ways of working to assist H&W
  • Deliver ongoing approved H&W Awareness Training to meet project and business needs
  • Actively provide H&W support and guidance to the supply chain & subcontractors.
  • Assist in the development of H&W case studies and best practice.
  • Relentlessly pursue every opportunity to challenge the norm
  • Support the delivery of briefings & toolbox talks
  • Ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated across the Project /Business area.
  • Support H&W work winning activities across the business
  • Regular communication and promoting engagement with stakeholders
  • Support and maintain a constant focus on the behavioural safety programme
  • Support the H&W upskilling and development of the business operational teams
  • Promote H&W initiatives and innovations across their Project /Business area

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH/IEMA) or working towards
  • Educated to NEBOSH National Level Certificate or equivalent
  • Good communicator with influencing and persuasion skills
  • Approachable
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player
  • Displaying and demonstrating the Balfour Beatty behaviours at all times
  • Incident/Accident investigator/fact finder
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Relevant experience matched with their Project /Business area.
