Job Summary and Main Purpose
The Mental Wellbeing Officer's role will be to deliver a comprehensive children and young people's mental health programme both in school and within local community settings; session will be delivered across Derby city and Derbyshire


Within this role you will be expected to deliver high quality Early Intervention activities to children and young people aged 10 to 18 years old who are encountering mild mental health issues.

The service will offer a universal and targeted programme to children and young people. You will be expected to run class-based, small group work, 121 targeted support and community based session.

The role requires delivery of high-quality interventions around confidence and resilience both in school and local community setting.

In addition, you will be expected to work with parents/carers to build their knowledge around their child's mental wellbeing which in turn will enable them to build a healthier lifestyle.


Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver a highquality children and young people's mental wellbeing programme on behalf of the trust
  • To motivate, inspire and support children and young people to improve their mental wellbeing
  • To work within a multidisciplinary manner with social care, health practitioners, school nurses and GP's
  • To forms strong working relationships with schools and community practitioners to enhance the delivery of the programme
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with children, young people and their parents/carers.
  • To support in the planning and adaption of sessions according to children's strengths and ability both in school and within community hubs
  • To effectively deliver and develop sessions through clear action planning and implementation
  • To work closely with DCCT's wider health department to improve the physical, emotional and mental health of children and young people
  • To have a sound understanding and indepth knowledge of children and young people's health and wellbeing
  • To plan, coordinate and adapt sessions according to young people's strengths and ability both in school and within community hubs
  • To collect accurate data in accordance with the projects outcomes and data collection systems
  • To support with teacher training to ensure the Winning Minds Transition programme is embedded within the curriculum
  • To have a sound understanding and indepth knowledge of children and young peoples mental and emotional health and wellbeing
  • Ability to work in both primary and secondary school settings

General Responsibilities

  • Ensuring continuous compliance with the requirements of relevant Health & Safety and Data Protection legislation. It is the duty of every staff member to take reasonable care of their own and other people's health, safety, and welfare, and to report to DCCT any situation which poses a serious or imminent threat to the wellbeing of themselves or of any other person.
  • It is essential that there is a consistent and effective approach to the process of identification and management of risks across the Trust. The escalation of risk within an organisation is a key mechanism for ensuring that risk is managed at the appropriate level by the appropriate individuals. All staff have a duty to ensure compliance with the Trust's Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrating the impact of DCCT programmes is a key performance indicator for the Trust. Capturing, recording, and analysing data is essential in supporting this. All staff are required to ensure they play their role where applicable.
  • The assurance of quality is fundamental for all work undertaken by DCCT and should be implemented by all staff in their work.
