Role Overview

The primary role of the Trainee Accountant will involve being a key member of the month end process supporting the Management Accountant and Financial Controller on financial close and reporting.

The role will also involve working closely with Operations on resource utilisation.

The Trainee Accountant will provide support on the forecasting and year-end processes along with leading bi-annual stocktakes and associated process improvement projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the monthend process including the preparation journal postings; balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of P&L/ balance sheet/ cash flow.
  • Regular monthly financial reporting for management and group.
  • Preparation and review of project margins, with the ability to interpret this data and share findings.
  • Responsible for the fixed asset register, carrying out asset verifications and capitalising assets monthly, along with sharing best practise knowledge around capex and disposals.
  • Supporting the labour absorption/utilisation process. Running daily reports for operations.
  • Sharing responsibility with the current expense administrator on dealing with expenses queries as they arise along with raising tickets with the shared service centre.
  • Support the annual stocktake process along with monthly cycle counts of inventory.
  • Other duties/ projects as they arise. This maybe offering support or taking the lead.
  • Provide any ad hoc support to the finance team as and when required.

Critical Competencies for Success

  • Willing to undertake a professional accounting qualification (ACCA or CIMA).
  • Able to work proactively, using own initiative to identify opportunities for Process Automation and system improvements.
  • IT literate, intermediate to advanced understanding of Excel.
  • Ability to interpret large volumes of data, ensuring high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines is essential.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Positive, flexible, enthusiastic and keen to learn
  • Cognos/ EFACS systems experience would be desirable but not essential
  • Power BI skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
