The communications team is responsible for internal and external communications to a wide range of stakeholders. This includes media relations, crisis management, public awareness campaigns, brand management, website and intranet management, awards, events, videos, internal communications with our Trust's 3,600 staff, and more


As the first point of contact for journalists, you will develop a proactive and creative approach to working with the media.

You will also contribute story ideas to our internal and external communication channels, and assist in advising staff about the communications implications of their projects.


The right person for this role will be a confident communicator with excellent writing skills, who can manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.

Your excellent interpersonal skills will help you develop good relationships with internal and external stakeholders and help you influence others effectively to meet objectives.

  • Contribute to the delivery of the Trust's communications strategy.
  • Act as the first point of contact for journalists, deal with their questions in a positive and professional manner and plan responses to lines of questioning.
  • Develop a forwardplanning mechanism to identify and prepare proactive stories for both the media and the Trust's internal communications channels, writing clear, creative and effective copy.
  • Establish, build and maintain good working relationships with key journalists in the local, national and specialist press
  • Identify stories of interest to the media and producing press releases and pitches to a high standard, working closely with journalists to understand their interests and expectations.
  • Help develop Trust spokespeople and ensure that they are appropriately briefed and trained in advance of undertaking media interviews.
  • Daily monitoring of media to support the team to be aware of health issues/policy developments being reported, and to identify angles of relevance for local media opportunities.
  • Support the Trust's media coverage reporting and activity
  • Contribute to content generation for internal and external channels.
  • Support the management and development of the Trust's brand and corporate identity across internal and external communications channels; undertake design work to deliver visual collateral to help communicate with and engage staff, patients and stakeholders.
  • Act as a Communications Partner for a clinical division
