GSK R&D and Digital and Tech's collective goal is to deliver business impact, including the acceleration of the discovery and development of medicines and vaccines to patients. The R&D Digital and Tech remit has expanded over the past 2 years, and to position GSK for the future, The change will strengthen R&D Tech, to provide more strategic impact, focus, accountability, and improved decision making in the use of Digital, Data and Analytics (DDA) to strengthen the pipeline.

The Senior Product Owner is accountable for designing and delivering the Technology roadmap that meets the business objectives and needs of GSK's Global Clinical Operations and continuously improves users experience for solutions and systems already serving the in-scope domains. The Product Owner will work collaboratively with stakeholders to define and agree on priorities within their domain and build plans that deliver optimally against those priorities.

The Product Owner will have ownership and responsibility for the technology product domain that underpin ad support study start-up processes, part of the bigger suite of solutions within Clinical Operations processes and including GSK's tech platform of choice (Veeva ClinOps Vault). This individual is recognized as the go to leader and trusted advisor for their product, working collaboratively and adaptively to constantly meet the needs of their customers and deliver value to GSK.

Product Owner responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Technology Strategy & Enablement: in the role of trusted advisor, strong domain knowledge including one or more of the following: business process, industry best practices, in-market solutions.
  • Demand management: Collaborate with business stakeholders to analyze, assess for value and prioritize business needs, discover pain points and propose technology strategies and product design that meets the needs and maximizes value delivery for the ClinOps business and its users.
  • Governance: Establish business value, manage delivery and service performance and manage business risk within the scope of their product. Responsible for representing the product, lifecycle management reporting and project-driven investment in governance boards (such as Steering Committees) and Leadership Team meetings.
  • Product/Project Delivery: Design and deliver the optimal set of products and services which meets the business strategy and requirements. Accountable for creation and execution of the product roadmap, including operationalization of release planning and management practices and de-facto owner of the product backlog. May complete hands on product / functional and high-level User Experience design, lead architecture and system interaction discussions, provide detailed designs and wider impact assessments. Accountable for design and operationalization of project delivery and operating model including assessment and management of delivery services vendors in line with Development Tech Strategic Partner and Vendor management strategies. The ability to think big picture and customer first within and across domains is imperative.
  • Feature Definition: Proven ability to translate customer requests, competitive activities, and industry trends into value drivers of new technology solutions and product requirements, end-user experience that can be easily understood by business and technology teams including SMEs, Designers and Engineering leads as key constituencies within the organization.
  • Quality, Risk & Compliance: Accountable for assessing and ensuring the product within the domain is compliant with internal security and risk management policies and practices, as well as external regulatory and statutory requirements e.g. GxP and that Tech continuity plans are in place.
  • Service Management: Responsible for ensuring a consistent and optimal system experience and any changes are delivered in accordance to the services levels that are in place; ensures fit-for-purpose and adherence to SLAs and directly manages Service leads and directs Level 1-3 support issues and escalations. Accountable for Lifecycle Management of the product.
  • People Management: Works in collaboration with the broader Tech Product team to communicate product value, roadmap, lead Designers and Engineers work associated to their product plan and roadmap deliverables, communicates and works through dependencies with product, engineering and business teams. Depending on team structure and project governance, the Product Owner may matrix manage the team contributing to product roadmap definition and delivery.
  • Adoption strategy & change management: in the role of a mini-CEO for their product area, the Product Owner acts as a change agent, supporting both the product teams and the business stakeholders in agile approaches to solution development, process change and adoption, building excitement, momentum, visible success stories and clear value-based versions of vision as roadmap plans come to life.

Functional domain focus for the Product Owner role covers transformation, differentiation and optimization solutions for

  • Study Delivery Planning processes
  • Country, Site and Investigator Selection and Initiation
  • Protocol operational feasibility assessment and reporting (country and site level)
  • Study and site start-up design and operationalization (global and country level)
  • Study and site start-up Automated and data-driven Operations
  • Site activation & Enrolment acceleration
  • Process and technology / system linkage with Clinical Operations platform, Site Engagement, Site Contracting and Payments (as part of Study Conduct) solutions

The Study Start-Up Senior Product Owner will work closely with the Global Clinical Operations Leaders and Functional teams, including Study start-up and Site Activation, Protocol Design & Feasibility Planning, Global Monitoring & Site Engagement teams as well as Product Owners, Designers, Architecture, Engineers, Development Data Fabric, Strategy & Portfolio Tech, Development Tech and Data Platform & Services teams to define the strategy as well as design and deliver the appropriate solutions that fall under their area of responsibility. Close collaboration with upstream and downstream business areas stakeholders and preserving a state of consistency regarding business value and roadmap delivery E2E as these are outlined by the overarching Development Technology strategy are key.

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Master's Degree - Technical Degree eg Engineering, Business Engineering, Information Technology.
  • Good practical (e.g., Product Ownership, Business Analysis) experience in major global Tech organization or Service Delivery partner.
  • Demonstrable experience in working in an IT product related industry, with experience in IT software (especially SaaS) analysis, design, or delivery, including transformation projects and change management.
  • Good experience in relationship management, influencing and communication skills.
  • Content knowledge of Life Sciences processes, specifically R&D (business operating models, processes & products).
  • Knowledge and assessment of emerging trends (both functional and technical) within domain.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Process and Product knowledge within Development Clinical Operations (including key technology offerings).
  • Certification of Product Ownership / Management within Agile framework.
