This is a large and highly complex role with annual spend oversight of up to £500m across 200 suppliers and 1000 materials including Primary and Secondary Pack, Devices related to our Ellipta, Diskus and MDI Portfolio as well as the Capex for these products; These materials support a broad portfolio of critical medicines across Respiratory, HIV, General Medicines, and Specialty in the GSK organization. The Packaging and Devices Senior Director role has a span of control of circa 4 direct reports and is accountable for the quality, service, supply risk, sustainability and cost of all materials and services procured for the GSK internal and external manufacturing sites globally.

As the Senior Director, you will be a key member of the Directs & Sites Procurement Leadership Team, with responsibility for developing and implementing Procurement strategies to deliver competitive value for GSK. Having a good understanding of the New GSK culture and leading the team to build this into their ways of working to further unlock value is key.

The geographic scope of the role is global with an organization and staff of up to circa 15 individuals

  • Manage a spend of up to £500m across 200 suppliers and 1000 materials, by creating comprehensive global sourcing strategies, operating with a truly global and strategic mindset. The scope of this role includes Paper Packaging (Carton, Leaflets, Labels, Corrugates); Primary Packaging (Flexibles, Laminates, Bottles, Closers, Desiccants) and Devices (Ellipta, Diskus, MDI, Propellant) as well as the Capex required to support the devices category.
  • Accountable for the quality, service/ supply risk, cost, cash and sustainability of all materials and services for the manufacturing sites within New GSK.
  • Accountable for business partnering with the relevant region/ supply chain Vice Presidents. The role holder is required to manage and influence many senior stakeholder's enterprise-wide including Therapy SC, Quality, EHS, R&D, Technical, Finance, External Supply, Legal, Engineering.
  • Create compelling business cases for change and obtain approval to execute from GSK Therapy SC leadership, Supply Chain leadership and governance (up to PRB at PSC President level) and/or other support function (Finance, HR, Quality etc.) senior management
  • Accountable for ensuring that the key requirements of Procurement of the New GSK Supply Chains are built into the relevant Category Procurement strategies and delivered.
  • Accountable for building organizational culture and capability (people and processes), optimizing resource allocation across the category teams and implementing effective and consistent ways of working. Accountable for attracting, developing and retaining a strong talent base.
  • Display leadership behaviors aligned with the New GSK values to drive a culture which is "ambitious for patients", "accountable for impact" and "do the right thing".
  • Accountable for ensuring ideation of new value creation projects (innovation, savings, quality, service/ supply risk, cash, sustainability) within the New GSK SCs and Sites.
  • Accountable for ensuring Regional/ local buying aligns to category sourcing strategies, with exceptions agreed.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with Procurement and other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Accountable for ensuring contract planning and coverage, negotiation, execution, interpretation and maintenance is in place. Negotiate with suppliers and work with legal in bringing a contract from draft to completion.
  • Embed a performance management system to drive mutual collaboration with the regional and local teams, enabling delivery of the global strategies.
  • Build strategic relationships with key suppliers at a senior level (CEO / EVP level) and lead processes, including Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) to ensure value is driven from these commercial relationships. Ensure GSK Enterprise considerations are accounted for in supplier relationships.
  • Lead and direct category teams within scope of responsibility
  • Ensure appropriate communication strategy is in place and in use within the relevant Procurement and business customer networks
  • Active involvement in development and deployment of certain key Supply Chain strategies.
  • Accountable for delivery of robust market intelligence assessment and act as the business expert for GSK.
  • Serve as procurement owner for Business Development activities, including mergers, acquisitions, integration, divestitures, and joint ventures.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • 10+ years professional Procurement experience in a comparable large, complex company.
  • 5+ years at Director/Sr. Director level or above.
  • Experience developing strategies and implementing.
  • Experience creating strategic values and executing.
  • Experience developing complex Cost Models / Should Cost / Clean Sheet.
  • Experience in CAPEX strategies, CAPEX budget planning and execution.
  • Experience in the identification and execution of Value Engineering opportunities.
  • Experience driving transformation and change management.
  • Project management leadership experience, including working cross-functionally with geographically and culturally diverse teams, and providing remote management.
  • Experience working with external suppliers.
  • Experience with contract planning, negotiation, execution, interpretation, and maintenance.
  • Experience with legal/ compliance/ regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in procurement area of Packaging and Devices in a Pharmaceutical environment and manufacturing processes
  • Experience developing procurement best practices, policies, and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master's degree or MBA
  • Institute for Supply Management (ISM) certification
  • Experience communicating and messaging throughout organization.
  • Experience using advanced problem solving / analytical skills to overcome obstacles.
  • Previous experience as a thought leader on Sustainability / Sustainability/Nature manufacturing practices
  • Experience managing and strategically influencing stakeholders and driving accountability.
