The department caters for 19 Theatres which include Emergency Theatres, Trauma Theatres, Obstetric Theatres and a range of Multi-specialty Theatres.

Theatres are committed to delivering outstanding care to our patients throughout their perioperative journey. Individuals need a high level of organisation and the ability to be dynamic with the ever changing workload.

HCA experience is desirable but not essential.

Key Aspects of the Role include but are not exclusive to:
Moving patients between wards, Theatres and PACU (Post Anaesthetic Care Unit) departments

Assisting in the care of the surgical patient during the peri-operative period by supporting the multidisciplinary team.

Supporting the Theatre personnel in providing a safe, high quality environment for the carrying out of surgical procedures by:

  • Assisting The Clinical Practitioners with procedures
  • Providing basic patient care.
  • Assisting in the general upkeep and maintenance of stock levels
  • Providing a safe environment ensuring the highest quality of patient care is provided
  • Prepare and set up theatre prior to theatre list.
  • General circulating duties as instructed/requested from qualified members of theatre team.
  • Assist the safe transit of the patient to and from the ward and between areas within day theatres, before and after surgery, and to ensure safety of any equipment that is attached to the patient.
  • Provide a knowledgeable and safe assistance with the transfer of the anaesthetised patient from the patient's trolley to the operating table using the hospital policy for manual handling of patients.
  • Assist with the positioning of the patient for a surgical procedure.
  • Undertake pressure area care using pressure relieving practices and devices as advised by registered staff.

  • To accurately and promptly carry out the instructions of the Registered Practitioner who is professionally accountable for the delivery of care
  • To deliver care and carry out duties as specified within the Trust's Approved core task list for Healthcare Assistants
  • To report to Registered Practitioner any patient who gives cause for concern or any observed changes in the patient's condition
  • To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care
  • To participate in the admission process under the supervision of the Registered Practitioner
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal nursing care
  • To report all care that has been given to patients within the team to a Registered Practitioner
  • Transfer patients to and from Theatre complex, moving beds in the accompaniment of a Registered Practitioner
  • To accurately document all care delivered to patients, countersigned by a Registered Practitioner maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • To assist in the preparation of patients and equipment for treatment, investigations or procedures as directed by the Registered Practitioner
