We have twenty-six Adult, Paediatric and Obstetrics theatres covering a diverse range of both elective and emergency work in a variety of specialties including major trauma, via the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS).

Main duties of the job

The aim of this role is to support the registered staff to provide safe and effective patient care. There is also an opportunity to rotate in Theatres-Recovery-Holding bay.

The post-holder will have key working relationships with the Admission Area and Ward staff, patients and carers, all operating department staff, surgical and anaesthetic staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Professional and Clinical Responsibilities:
1. Communicate effectively with differing professions, patients and carers to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
2. Use different forms of communication as appropriate to the person and situation.
3. Ensure all relevant information is relayed to the appropriate staff in a timely manner to facilitate safe perioperative patient care.
4. Identifies potential problems, which may affect the care of the patient, and reports to senior member of staff.
5. Provides conversational support to patients when appropriate.
6. Ensure all relevant documentation accompanies the patient when transferred between admission area / ward, holding bay and theatre.
7. Receive record and transmit information accurately, by face to face, written, electronic or telephonic means.
8. Record patient information on Surginet.
9. Demonstrate caring and compassion to all patients.
10. Maintain privacy, dignity and modesty of patients at all times.
11. Respect the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of others, including patients, and assist them in fulfilling these needs.
12. Use resources effectively to deliver a high quality service.
13. Work as an effective member of the perioperative team to deliver the service, within boundaries of own knowledge and skills.
14. Assist in the transfer of patients to / within / from the perioperative care environment.
