Beaumont College, South Lakes (Barrow in Furness) is a very special place and we are seeking to extend our work-family in response to increased demand for places at the college.

If you have as passion to support some of the most vulnerable special school leavers to fulfil their potential, through support for the planned, high quality delivery of learning, this role is for you.


We are seeking to appoint a Student Support Worker with a passion to support special school leavers in their journey to prepare for adulthood.

Ideally having experience of supporting learners to learn in particular experience with students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) you will be creative, inclusive and look forward to working with our students who love to learn and are motivated to attend, enjoy and achieve

Your will work with a wider team including teachers, tutors and learning support colleagues.

We offer small class sizes and high levels of support to our learners and as a result they make the progress they are capable of.

Our pathways are highly personalised and alongside Preparing for Adult Hood, learners will each have a bespoke package of health and support interventions including physio and hydro therapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy, access to a skilled and experienced team of assistive technologist, and positive behaviour practitioners.


Vocational themes of learning support students to make progress, both educationally and in self-advocacy, confidence, self-belief and resilience in preparation for life beyond college in busy and fulfilling destinations.


About The Role:

Job Overview

Working directly with students in and around sessions you will provide the care and support they need and rely on to be able to access their learning.

Timetabled activities alongside life in a busy student community; no two days are the same.


The students you will support with have long term health conditions, they may be reliant on your for personal care, which we provide with dignity and respect.

As Special School Leavers we are committed to enabling our students to be heard, listened to and understood.

And in return you will enjoy seeing the students you work with become adults and prepare for busy and fulfilling lives as graduates.

Graduation is a rite of passage, and it reminds of of how far each and every learner has progressed. And there isn't a dry eye in the house as we recall the journey our amazing young people take.

Job Details

As a student support worker, you will be supporting students in classroom environments, assisting in accessing the community, and participating in activities to help develop life skills together with assisting them with their personal care needs.


You will contribute to creating a nurturing environment where students can lead fulfilling lives, free from fear, and in line with their needs and aspirations.

You will be supporting their personal growth by assisting them in maintaining personal hygiene, maximizing their comfort, and fostering their abilities as well as minimising risks.


You will promote and empower students to actively participate in college activities by providing support within college sessions and in the community at large.

Effective communication serves as the cornerstone of our approach.

By truly understanding the needs of our students, team members, and the organisation, you will ensure seamless implementation of an agreed care plan.
