About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled Flood Modeller to join our client's dynamic team. This key role focuses on enhancing and refining global flood forecasting systems.

As a crucial member of the team, you will play a vital role in various aspects of model development – from integrating new datasets to improving forecast accuracy through thorough validation.

Your expertise will be pivotal in advancing our flood forecasting products and conducting tailored flood modeling and risk assessment projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and integration of essential data for custom flood modeling projects.
  • Supervise daily monitoring and historical accuracy assessments of flood forecasts, utilizing Python and GIS tools.
  • Proactively collect flood data to enhance forecasting precision.
  • Initiate specialized flood modeling and risk assessment assignments.
  • Provide guidance to junior GIS analysts to ensure the quality of their work.
  • Innovate in flood forecasting product development, including creating prototype Python modules.
  • Respond swiftly to flood events and tackle operational challenges.
  • Contribute to software development and other operational duties.
  • Take part in grant writing and innovation funding projects.
  • Compile project reports and support the sales and marketing teams when necessary.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of processes and projects.
About You:

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in Python programming, 2D flood modeling, and GIS, preferably with a degree in Geography or Engineering.

With a minimum of three years' experience in flood modeling, you should be comfortable in a fast-paced, agile business environment, ideally in a startup culture.

Your skills should include:
  • Advanced Python programming, with a history of significant code contributions.
  • Proficiency in GIS, with experience managing large-scale data projects.
  • A deep knowledge of hydrology, hydrodynamic modeling, and flood forecasting principles.
  • Experience in acquiring and handling extensive geospatial datasets for flood risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with AWS Cloud services and a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
