This role is based in the Open Research team, responsible for working with King's researchers in an exciting, complex, and fast-moving area.

The team works to support the curation and dissemination of scholarly outputs - comprising support for open accessing publishing, REF exercises, research data management, and copyright; alongside an interlending service and wide range of subscription-based Library resources - including journals, databases, and ebooks, to support learning, teaching, and research.

About the Role


The purpose of the Open Research Engagement Librarian is to support the open research agenda, identifying opportunities to communicate with and engage King's researchers, staff in Libraries & Collections, and the wider King's community.

The postholder will work with the Open Research team, ensuring stakeholders are informed, consulted, and enthused about opportunities and developments in open research.

This will include scholarly publishing, open data, bibliometrics, funder policies, and developments in the publishing landscape.

They will be responsible for developing a programme of advocacy, knowledge sharing, and training, to promote and embed open research practices across the College.

You will be required to participate in frontline services as required, including contributing towards a Manager on Duty rota for evening and weekend working.

This is currently a hybrid role with both working from home and on campus. The role will be based at our department, at the Maughan Library - part of the Strand campus.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 2 years.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee Open Research engagement activity, working closely with staff across the team especially the Open Access Librarian, Research Data Manager, and Head of Open Research; support and enable them to communicate about OR and build relationships with King's research community, establishing and developing effective communication channels
  • Take a structured approach to Open Research advocacy and communications, conducting a review, assessing current activities, identifying gaps and opportunities, producing and executing a plan to support our goals
  • Oversee the creation of publicity and promotion materials and guides, and the planning and running of a range of inperson and virtual promotional events
  • Lead on Open Research LibUX related activities within Open Research, creating mechanisms to obtain regular user feedback, enabling the team to understand and evaluate the impact of our work and support continuous service improvement
  • Share in the delivery of briefing and training sessions to the research community, about open access publishing and research data management
  • Collaborate with other grade 6 colleagues in Libraries & Collections to prioritise, plan and share accountability for delivering on our aims
  • Promote continuous improvement, service innovation and the delivery of results
  • Manage people or a team, through project or line management, in order to deliver high quality services
  • Support the implementation and use of Business Intelligence to steer operational service planning and decision making
  • Liaise and engage with appropriate stakeholders to ensure efficient service delivery
