Job overview

This is a non-training position in the Department of Paediatric Surgery for a period of 12 months subject to a probationary period of 3 months. The responsibilities of the post holder are similar to one of our registrar training post covering General Surgery. The middle grade team (Registrar level) comprises of 4 NTNs and 3-4 clinical fellows. The Fellow posts are fully funded by the Trust and do not have formal educational approval. However every effort will be made to ensure that the holder of these posts will have opportunities to participate in clinical activities, formal teaching sessions, audit, and research

Main duties of the job

General Duties

• To be an active member of the Team and help deliver the departmental mission of excellence in clinical care and teaching.

• Continuing responsibility for providing a specialist service for the patients referred in to the department in line with Trust and DH targets, including performing all administrative duties associated with the patient care.

Clinical duties

• Outpatient and inpatient care of patients within General Paediatric Surgery

• To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and out-patients

• To help provide triaging/vetting of referrals and advice and guidance to local clinicians.

• To collaborate with medical and non-medical colleagues in the development and delivery of care plans.

• To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.

• To maintain up to date knowledge of scientific, clinical and technical developments in Paediatric Surgery.

• To support the recruitment and medical assessments of patients in industry trials and NIHR adopted studies, guided by the research team from the Children's Clinical Research Facility.

Essential criteria

Medical Degree from a recognised University Full GMC registration Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice Eligibility to live and work in the UK Possession of FRCS, MRCS or equivalent

Desirable criteria

Advanced Paediatric Life Support Course OR Advanced Trauma Life Support Course

Experience

Essential criteria

A minimum of 3 years full time post graduate training (its equivalent gained on a part time basis) or equivalent experience and competencies Previous experience in Paediatric Surgery
