ELF Counselling Services Lead

Salary:
£30,000 per annum, pro rata

JOB PURPOSE


To offer emotional and psychological support to patients connected to the RD&E Haematology unit; providing one to one support and group facilitation.


To lead and develop the ELF counselling service; assess and coordinate all incoming referrals, and provide specialist support and guidance to the ELF team of counsellors.


KEY WORKING RELATIONS

  • Exeter Leukaemia Fund staff
  • Anyone affected by haematological illness, being supported by or treated by the RD&E haematology department, requiring additional psychological / emotional support
  • RD&E haematology department
  • Other local charities including FORCE and Hospiscare

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assess and coordinate all incoming referrals to the ELF counselling service and appropriately allocate to counsellors or signpost where needed
  • To be point of contact for additional counselling staff
  • To keep up to date records, including report writing and carry out administration tasks as needed
  • To comply with ELF's Safeguarding Policy and support the nominated Safeguarding Lead to ensure the policy remains fit for purpose
  • To manage a caseload of patients needing counselling and support, within a competency framework based on the ethical guidelines of BACP, and in line with ELFs' policies and procedures
  • Provide first line response to distressed clients where necessary
  • To signpost to, and liaise with other professionals and organisations involved in the care and support of haematology patients
  • To maintain high professional standards and take regular supervision
  • To work with the haematology team and other Trust staff to provide an integrated service to clients
  • To follow ELF policy and procedure and Trust procedure when on Trust site
  • To take part in regular performance appraisal
  • To undertake any training required to maintain competency
  • To contribute to and work within a safe working environment
  • To comply with Trust Infection Control Policies and conduct him/herself at all times in such a manner as to minimise the risk of healthcare associated infection

Qualification and Training
Advanced Diploma in Counselling*Membership of an appropriate professional body such as BACP, NCS or UKCP*Supervision Certificate*Group facilitation certificate

Knowledge and Skills

It Literate*
Experience
